  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

IMO a person being deemed openminded, is subjective to opinion. Compared to many people of my age and background, sexual preference, class, religious preference, learnedness, financial situation and gender. I'm probably more open minded than most. But, there are some subjects that I patently don't like and have no tollorance for. So, I might appear closed minded in that context. With what in particular are you referring?

Do you try to see people by their true nature? Or are you more prone to judge people by what you see?

The premise of the thread is in addition to answering the question of the post before you, to ask a question for the next person, too. It's a game of sorts. ;)

What about this? What is the difference between judging and observing? If I look at a tree, I can tell what kind of a tree it is. If it is an apple tree if it has apples on it. If it is a peach tree, it has peaches on it. Am I judging the tree? No.
In the context of the question I asked, there is a vast difference between discerning whether a tree bares peaches or apples and basing your opinion on who a person is, by either a. what you see, alone or b. what is not readily apparent by appearances.

OK. I searched on a search engine for Christian Chat. How long have you been using this website?

I forget my actual join date. If I had the energy, I would click on my profile and check it. (but I don't...forgive me) But, over 2 years. (as is denoted by that green bar with the number of crosses for each year I've been a member that you can see on my post.)

More thoughts on your question:
Judge: To have as an opinion or assumption; suppose.
Observe: To make a systematic or scientific observation of.
Discern: To perceive with the eyes or intellect; detect.
The words are only subtely different. Their meanings are usually defined by their context. So, if you look at a tree with your eyes, and judge, observe or discern it to be an apple tree based on it baring the fruit of an apple. It would be more or less the same.

But, people are not apple trees. Who they are, is not easily descernable by what you see. (sorry if I seem to be belaboring the point. I do that. )

Stipulating that the Bible is a given. What is the last book you read( other than the Bible)?

Okay, well, it's a little after 4 in the afternoon. So, post here for a little while longer, fold the laundry, make dinner, do the dishes, my daughter has invited one of her friends over for the night, so supervise and entertain them, watch Survivor at 8:00, either watch t.v. a little longer or read some more, go to bed around 11:00, sleep until 6, take a shower, make some coffee, start the laundry, read until about 9:00, go up and make my bed ( my husband should be out of it by now) Help my 7 year old make her bed, get dressed, do her hair, wake my other daughter and her guest up, and my son, make breakfast for everyone, do the dishes hopefully read for another hour, do the invoicing for the company, see if my husband needs any other work done for the company, tell the kids to quiet down about 20 or so times, clean up after them, make lunch for everyone, do the dishes, clean the kitchen, clean something (although I don't know what, because everything is pretty much already clean) post a little bit on C.F. (if I have time) ...and that is probably the plan for the next 24 hours.

Gosh that was a long involved question you asked! Whew!!!

What do you like to do in your personal time?

Thanks for the bump!! :)

I like to get under the cars and change the oil or fix them up somehow. I like to read a good christian novel that is fictional. I like to just go outside and see if there is something to keep me busy while I enjoy the nice weather (if the weather is nice).

What's your favorite bird?

Maybe Elijah. He is such a tough customer. He walks right up to king Ahab who is "one bad king boy oh boy" and just tells him how bad he is in God's name. And he gets fed by Ravens which is cool.

What is your favorite bible female character?
