Is it normal for a christian to doubt his or her faith?I was wondering this because i looked at myself in a mirror and asked myself, "am i going to go to heaven"?For some reason i couldn't answer.
#1:Is there any way to remove this doubt?
#2Is this normal?
if you're in doubt about your salvation, then you have to ask yourself why. is there sin in your life, the reason you have doubts?
the Bible says that the shield of faith quenches the fiery darts of the enemy, and doubt is definitely a fiery dart straight from the pits of hell. so faith is what will remove that doubt. so you have to take up faith. praying in the Spirit increases faith. reading God's Word increases faith. get in God's presence more often so He can speak directly to you, and you can know what is on His heart for you. worship Him. you have to draw near to Him so that He will draw near to you, otherwise Satan will pull you away.
the Bible says give no place to the devil or make no room for him. when you get saved, satan has to move out, but the Holy Spirit has to move in, otherwise Satan comes back to fill that room back up. you have to make the decision that you're going to fill your temple with prayer, worship and the Word and presence of God, so that Satan has no room in you. so that he has no access to you.
now you asked is it normal to doubt... i don't know if i'd consider it as being normal. i consider it as being an attack from the enemy. doubt is usually derived either from Satan's lies or from a fear of something. now if you wanna know if it is normal for Satan to lie to you, then yes it is. it is his very nature to lie to you about everything he speaks. so his lies are normal, but you to choose not to receive his lies so that he doesn't place doubt in you.
now if your doubt comes from a fear of something, the Bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear... so where did it come from? so i don't know if i'd consider it as being normal. i'd consider it as being something that we have to overcome, because without faith it is impossible to please God and doubt is the exact opposite of faith. so if something is keeping u from pleasing God, whether we call it normal or not, we need to overcome that thing.
the Bible also says that there is now no condemnation to those that are in Christ. so if you are in Christ, and you're living in holiness, then the only thing Satan has on you is your past. and that's the only thing he should have on you. and if that is all he has on you, then he could never win the argument! lol! because there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ. Jesus' blood covers all.
doubting salvation is very common to new believers. it's one of Satan's 1st attacks against you. he knows that he can't take your salvation away, so he tries to convince you that you're not really saved... so that you fall away from the faith. his job is to give you bait to lure you away from God, but your job is to fight the good fight of faith knowing that God is on your side and He has overcome the world. Greater is He that is now in you than he that is in the world around you. that was one of the 1st scriptures i learned when i got saved. and His Word builds faith, especially when you try His Word to see if it works... God has to prove Himself and when you see Him do that for you... then it proves to you that you are saved and God is so real to you.
you said something about you were wondering whether or not you'll go to heaven. i was just reading in the Bible where Paul was saying in 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, that God has given us His Holy Spirit as a guarantee that He will raise our bodies from the dead and we will be in heaven with Him. He said that to be absent from the (physical) body (or naturally dead) is to be present (or alive) with the Lord (in heaven). so the Holy Spirit confirms that we are saved and we are His children.
now salvation is by faith in Jesus. so you have to have that faith in Him. if you believe in Him then you are saved, and He gives you His Spirit to confirm this. so you just have to accept it as fact by faith that Jesus is your Savior and He has died for your sins.
Romans 8:16 says "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God"
God bless you!
