  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you doubt your faith, it means you're not dead yet. We all have doubts. We all have those fleeting thoughts that creep into our minds. I think it's totally normal. I think we can't help but doubt, as we try to live by Faith, not factual knowledge. Those are different. One cannot doubt something that is fact. Therefore, it is acceptable to doubt, so long as those doubts are dismissed.

Sorry for that random tangent, it was my rationalization, be it helpful or not. Anyway, yes, I think it is normal to occasionally doubt your Faith. I hope you find peace in this matter.

God bless

It's all too common and happens for a myriad of reasons. Fortunately, salvation is one of those realities that is no less dependable than the chair you sit in or the sun. You can forget about it, you can doubt that it will hold up, but God still holds it in place. We are His, in His hands. No one can snatch us away (John 10:28-29). It's not God's will that we be lost either (John 6:39-40). When we are lost, He goes searching to find us (Matthew 18:12-14, John 21:15-22). He did it for Peter, He did it for me, and if you should even go as far as that, He will do the same for you. God's love is inescapable, His power to save infinite. It is Biblically impossible for the Christian to sin so much that God wouldn't take you back if you cried out to Him (John 6:37). The Bible says you are in His hands, and you can't stop His love for you. There's nothing more solid than that.

Is it normal for a christian to doubt his or her faith?I was wondering this because i looked at myself in a mirror and asked myself, "am i going to go to heaven"?For some reason i couldn't answer.
#1:Is there any way to remove this doubt?

#2Is this normal?
Doubts are not unusual. You can't remove this doubt completely & permanently, no. But there are ways to slice this doubt into pieces. 1 John has all sorts of points about how doubt is removed.

Remember, your doubt is not generally something that impacts your salvation. If you rely on Jesus Christ to save you, it's not the strength of your faith that holds onto Him -- it's Jesus' strength that holds onto you.

I always look at this from the standpoint of a 2-year-old being rescued from a burning building. Maybe the 2-year-old is hanging onto the rescuer for dear life -- but it's the rescuer's strength and work that is saving him.

You may have doubts about how it all works, too. A 2-year-old may have no concept for how the rescue helicopter suspends the rescuer in midair. He doesn't have to know about lift & drag for the helicopter to work. And the kid may even believe it's magic.

There's just one thing he's gotta do. He's gotta rely on the rescuer.

Fortunately we aren't accepted because we are "good enough" but rather by His grace. God shows us things through His Holy Spirit to humble us. But we being in the flesh bodies and minds, sometimes try to reason why He does things in our lives thus confusing ourselves.

Matthew 19:17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

if you're in doubt about your salvation, then you have to ask yourself why. is there sin in your life, the reason you have doubts?

the Bible says that the shield of faith quenches the fiery darts of the enemy, and doubt is definitely a fiery dart straight from the pits of hell. so faith is what will remove that doubt. so you have to take up faith. praying in the Spirit increases faith. reading God's Word increases faith. get in God's presence more often so He can speak directly to you, and you can know what is on His heart for you. worship Him. you have to draw near to Him so that He will draw near to you, otherwise Satan will pull you away.

the Bible says give no place to the devil or make no room for him. when you get saved, satan has to move out, but the Holy Spirit has to move in, otherwise Satan comes back to fill that room back up. you have to make the decision that you're going to fill your temple with prayer, worship and the Word and presence of God, so that Satan has no room in you. so that he has no access to you.

now you asked is it normal to doubt... i don't know if i'd consider it as being normal. i consider it as being an attack from the enemy. doubt is usually derived either from Satan's lies or from a fear of something. now if you wanna know if it is normal for Satan to lie to you, then yes it is. it is his very nature to lie to you about everything he speaks. so his lies are normal, but you to choose not to receive his lies so that he doesn't place doubt in you.

now if your doubt comes from a fear of something, the Bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear... so where did it come from? so i don't know if i'd consider it as being normal. i'd consider it as being something that we have to overcome, because without faith it is impossible to please God and doubt is the exact opposite of faith. so if something is keeping u from pleasing God, whether we call it normal or not, we need to overcome that thing.

the Bible also says that there is now no condemnation to those that are in Christ. so if you are in Christ, and you're living in holiness, then the only thing Satan has on you is your past. and that's the only thing he should have on you. and if that is all he has on you, then he could never win the argument! lol! because there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ. Jesus' blood covers all.

doubting salvation is very common to new believers. it's one of Satan's 1st attacks against you. he knows that he can't take your salvation away, so he tries to convince you that you're not really saved... so that you fall away from the faith. his job is to give you bait to lure you away from God, but your job is to fight the good fight of faith knowing that God is on your side and He has overcome the world. Greater is He that is now in you than he that is in the world around you. that was one of the 1st scriptures i learned when i got saved. and His Word builds faith, especially when you try His Word to see if it works... God has to prove Himself and when you see Him do that for you... then it proves to you that you are saved and God is so real to you.

you said something about you were wondering whether or not you'll go to heaven. i was just reading in the Bible where Paul was saying in 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, that God has given us His Holy Spirit as a guarantee that He will raise our bodies from the dead and we will be in heaven with Him. He said that to be absent from the (physical) body (or naturally dead) is to be present (or alive) with the Lord (in heaven). so the Holy Spirit confirms that we are saved and we are His children.

now salvation is by faith in Jesus. so you have to have that faith in Him. if you believe in Him then you are saved, and He gives you His Spirit to confirm this. so you just have to accept it as fact by faith that Jesus is your Savior and He has died for your sins.

Romans 8:16 says "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God"

God bless you!

Doubt happens sometimes, but such doubt is not ours until we take ownership of it. Such doubt is a seed, so when it rises in a way that hampers your faith, read a chapter (or two) of a gospel (John is one of my favorites), or a chapter in Romans to Jude.

Jesus Christ said "I will never leave you nor forsake you." When doubt pops into your head make sure this verse pops in right behind it.
