• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If I was attacked repeatedly would I not have a riht [sic] to attack back?
Well, I guess that depends on what your rights are. Ask a lawyer.

Or if my wife was being attacked/raped, etc.
See above.

I would like to know to what extent I'm to be non-violent.
That depends on what sense you mean and according to who. If you ask Gandhi, I'm sure you'll come away with a different answer than you would President Obama. If you're wondering where Yeshua settles on the issue, the one who could have called down angels to protect him, who could have thrown down the Roman Empire and delivered his subjugated people from oppression, I don't think you have to look any further than this:

In classical Christian thought, both pacifists and non-pacifists [just war types] were agreed; both rejected self-defense.

The question of defending one's wife is not a pacifist example because pacifism related to wars and the rejection of bearing the sword as a soldier.

I expect that in the case of one's famliy, a husband would intervene to the extent of his abilities whether it was rebuking the assailant in the name of the Lord or attempting to restrain him.

[Too many American Christians have watched too much garbage on TV and at the movies, which are a far cry from normal reality.]
