Hello, I'm Michelle from Japan. I'm a non-Christian (non-practicing Buddhist), so I suppose I would be unwelcomed here. However bible reading and making devotion is the one of my lifeworks.

Sometimes I am hospitalized due to my incurable disease. Whenever I pack I wonder what I should take to the hospital for devotion as minimal belongings.

I am not used to make devotion by myself even now, so I use a guide magazine and a devotional notebook. Although I know the bible is readable with mobile phone or tablet and the websites are available too, I can't memorize without reading and writing with the paper. Anyways this time I intend to take a cross necklace and small verse cards. I wonder if it is odd, though.

If/When you are hospitalized, which devotional belonging do you bring as minimal as possible?

Thank you for reading and woule be glad if nice advice comes.

Hello, I'm certainly sorry to hear of your condition and will be praying for a recovery. I hope that in this time you seek truth in its entirety and not just what culture would tell you, because regardless of where you live, there has never been a culture that pointed perfectly to Christ. I would recommend not any particular devotion, but instead to simply read through the psalms. I know that these can sometimes be long and hard to understand, but its in this collection of writings that God's character is revealed to us.
May the peace of our Lord draw near to you and His grace draw you unto Himself,
P1M

Thank you for the reply. I've already read a part of Psalms and am going to continue to read ongoingly.

Sorry but I don't know how I should explain what I want to say in English and what I told seems to make you misunderstand. I wanted to ask how I can reduce the things related to worship when I am hospitalized because the bible, a guide book and a notebook are kinda bulky to take to the hospotal. In other words I wanted to know the way to minimalize my belongings to the hospital. It's material issue rather than spiritual ones.

However I understood that I don't have to rely on guide book unnecessarily at least. Thank you.

Welcome to CF, minimalizing required materials - maybe an audio bible downloaded to phone.

Hi, going with digital format is probably the most minimalist you can do.

Put books either into your smart phone, tablet or to e-reader.

Hello Michelle, please don't imagine that you are not welcome. We are happy to show you the love of Jesus for you. When I was in hospital, I was too ill to read or write. I played Christian songs over and over and they were a great comfort. What was suitable for me may not be right for you. My suggestion for you would be to take the gospel of John. It was written expressly so that we might believe.

My friend read the Bible for years before she became a Christian. It helped her through some hard times.
