  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm just trying to understand. Not a judgement on any of you. Why would you want to be in a Christian forum? It would be nice if you're on the fence and you might fall over to our side. Hopefully to learn about Jesus. I've talked to a few and they made no bones about their hatred, one was converting people to his side. What about you?

I actually joined this website when I was a Christian myself, ironically in the hopes of finding a community where I could face less scrutiny for my beliefs. Ever since I was a kid I was very entranced with Christianity and couldn't help talking about it with others, the problem is some secular places can be pretty brutal with feedback; so, I came here in the hopes of some relief. A year later I lost my faith, and a year after that I worked up the courage to start calling myself an atheist. During this time, I actually took a year break from this website.

After losing my faith I started facing a lot of psychological (I believe chemical withdrawal symptoms). About 6 months into being an atheist I finally realized the main source of my trauma I experienced with my faith. This spurred deep anger and resentment with my former religion, and I came back here with a vengeance wanting to debate other Christians. Although to my surprise I wasn't met with hostility with too many of the Christian members here, and some sympathized with my plight... so the anger cooled off. By that time, I got resettled into this site... and despite not having too much of a reason being here faith wise... I mainly post here now simply because this place is familiar.

I guess I'd say.. Christianity has been part of my life ever since I became self-aware, to totally separate myself from that... might be one reason I also stick around. This website is pretty much my last link for that.

Some atheists I know were former Christians. And virtually all of them talk more about Christianity than most Christians. So there's a really obvious preoccupation involved. The ones who have had my ear, like my sibling, whether intentionally or not, are trying to get me to see the error of being a Christian like they have.

There are some atheists, agnostics, whatever here who trash Christians and Christianity pretty vitrolically.

Well for some former theists, the Christian upbringing left us with some deep scars.

Jesus said ...

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

I believe God put in our spirit a desire to look to Him for salvation.

Call it a "sixth sense" or a "pull" or a "wonderment" or whatever; it's there, and it's effective.

Many atheist from the science faith. Come here to debate Biblical creation, too bad many christians play the science game. By trying to prove creation by using science along with the occasional Bible reference.
Depending on what you mean, I might not disagree, but if the person you are debating claims the Bible is not scientific, then how would you go about the discussion without playing, as you call it, the science game?

Someone here stated that you can't prove creation with science, but science tells us the universe was the result of a Big Bang. How is that not in itself a creation theory? Nobody can prove what caused the Big Bang, so the idea that it was some unknown phenomena or God should be on a somewhat equal footing.

That's obviously one of numerous issues, but each issue taken by itself generally has a logical rationale behind each side.

It’s sad. Then they want you to turn because they are miserable. Misery loves company. If I’m on my way to hell i want everyone to come with me.

It’s sad.

It sure is.

Why would a person professing Christianity give up all these benefits:

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

... in order to embrace atheism?

That's a very broad generalisation. I'm very content with my life and not at all miserable.

Many of us started here as Christians and have stayed for the community. The diversity of opinion here is a good source of enriching engagement.

Non Christians have limited access but I am glad they pop into threads because they are the " harvest". We are called to spread the " Good News". Blessings.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." (Matthew 9:37-38)
Not here, it is off topic here.

As a non-Christian, like to see what people are thinking and feeling in the USA and elsewhere. I get insight into the state of our society.

I also want to challenge what I think are ignorant ideas where I encounter them, and to have my own ignorance challenged. I dont want to steer people away from Christianity at all.

I don't believe in God. I don't need to believe. I know God for certain; God is as close to me as my hands and eyes. I don't believe I have hands and eyes I know I have them. God is as real and as certain. We are born with this knowledge and the ability to communicate with God. All those that don't know these facts do is shake off the blinders and blocks that have been placed before them.
