  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Bible never says Noah even needed the help. 100 years is a enoug time to build just about anything

There is a general assumption by believers and others that Noah's three sons probably helped, but scripture doesn't state this. Why stop assuming there when we can assume that Noah acted as a general contractor, possibly employing thousands of craftsmen and laborers. The bible is sketchy on details in many cases, but we can fill in the story (in a reasonable way of course).

I Kings 6 describes the building of the temple. If read literally Solomon built it by himself, as no others are mentioned. And though it took 'him' seven years to complete it we can assume he had help. When God instructed these to build something he means see to it that it gets built.

If he had thousands of of craftsmen and laborers, I can't imagine it would have taken a hundred years. The Ark was big, but it wasn't that big - a pyramid only took people in that age about twenty years to build, and they had to move solid stone around, not wood. And one would also have to ask where he got that sort of money, especially enough to convince people who thought he was crazy to toil for a hundred years.

The ark would have taken many years just to plan and design. Materials had to be brought from great distances. Tools and methods had to be conceived, built, and tested.

It was also a ministry; a century long sermon to world to repent. It, like the Pyramids, would have been known throughout the entire world. It's purpose wasn't just to save the few but to warn the many.

How could it be a ministry to the world? Mankind was spread out all over the world, even in places Noah couldn't reach. The pyramids weren't known to the entire world; they probably weren't even know to the Chinese at the time.

No they were not, apparently you are not familiar with the tower of Babel, after the flood, because mankind had stayed together in one spot lest they be scattered over the Earth. After, is when they were scattered. After they were all knowledgable in building pyrimids, which is why they are found worldwide, from different "scattered" cultures.

Besides of course the materials necessary to make a ship like that actually float, like steel.

Metalworking was known before the flood, and would have been used in the ark's construction. Also, despite artistic renderings to the contrary, the ark was more of a giant box than a ship.

Noah could have ordered parts and labor from all corners of the populated earth (yet more time needed). The ark would have been the 'talk of the town'. The pyramids were just another edifice to a egotistical king; nothing to see here.

That has nothing to do with it. There are thousands of other religions out there that have a god or gods and none of them have flood stories associated with them. The falsification of a global flood can do a few things, the most important of which being that it can show that the Bible was written by men. But it contributes nothing to the debate of the existence of god.

Which would take longer? Building this massive boat with a limited labor force, or taking a hike and finding high ground?

Even though these aren't direct answers to my question, it does say something about what you bring to the question.

Domesticated animals, which in his day would have been worth a lot of money. There are animals today that are worth up in the millions of dollars.

This is part of an answer, so thank you for that. The remainder of the question, then, is how many of these domesticated animals could Noah have managed on the ark?

No, actually it would not have and the Bible says nothing about the use of metal. You're adding what isn't there. Metal was not used to reinforce ships until Iron came about during the Industrial Revolution. The Ark as described in the Bible would never ever have been seaworthy.

Genesis 4:22
And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

This verse indicates that the use of metals was highly developed. Note that Tubalcain taught metalworking to others, i.e.

"Tubalcain's PreFlood School of Metal Artificing". ^_^

To repeat, the ark was not a 'ship'. Because it was a giant, massively reinforced wooden box it could be made actually stronger than any ship. It wasn't intended to navigate but to float and to protect its occupants and to survive the flood.

We're talking about something the size and dimensions of the ark - they would have had to use metal supports, if it was ever build

Although the use of iron and brass fittings was possible it is doubtful that they were used to any great extent in the ark proper. The use of peg-and- spline timber joinery was well developed at the time, and would have been well suited for the ark's construction. Of course metal tools were absolutely necessary for the job.
