Can't one be a perfectly good Christian and not have to believe that every Bible story is literally and factually true? Look at the Society of Friends. Most modern day Quakers believe that the Bible is written in figurative terms and is not the sole authority on matters of faith and conduct. Yet they are probably the moral, upstanding, and exemplary Christians (or religious believers of any stripe) that I have ever known. Is it really that important to believe that there was an actual Ark with all the wildlife aboard? Does that make you a better person?
