Students are not going to school to learn how to have sex, schools were created to educate students, to prepare them for work. Students are not ready for sex.
I agree with you for the most part, but our cultural beliefs regarding the treatment of teenagers are such that most will have opportunities to have sex, and seeing as they're post-pubescent humans, some will begin to act on their natural desires at this age. It's good to provide these individuals with the means to avoid pregnancy and STDs, because people who aren't ready to have sex in the first place certainly aren't ready to be parents.

Students are not supposed to be given condoms in schools. Students are not going to school to learn how to have sex, schools were created to educate students, to prepare them for work. Students are not ready for sex. Contrary to popular belief not all students are having sex. The reason why more teens are becoming sexually active is because of the prevalence of sexual songs, pornography, and adult shows and movies. Pornography especially is one of the biggest problems in this world that needs to be stopped.

Most people have sex before they turn 18. It is a statistical fact.

I'm turning 22 this month and am a virgin, so clearly not everyone, but still most.

Wow.. That's among the top 10 worst statements I've seen on this forum. Students go to school to learn about everything.. Not just about how to get a job to serve someone else. Educating them about sex is part of the process.

Students are not ready for sex. Contrary to popular belief not all students are having sex.
No, but almost all students are curious about sex, and will eventually have it. Wouldn't you rather them do it right?

Yikes! You're occupying two spots in the top 10 now. Actually, as far as I know, pornography has never killed anyone.. but religion has.. perhaps you should direct your energy to more worthy causes.

So are you against free speech in general? Or just the part that includes porn?

I find it odd that you choose porn as a target.. McDonald's food and other junk food, has caused more suffering and death in one year then porn has in all its history. Why don't you target some of your energy there?

Are you one of these people that gets all flustered when a woman breasts feeds her baby in public?

Oh yeah I forgot, sexual education is not actually education.

As far as preparing them for work, teaching them how to avoid having a baby anchor them down during the college years seems to fit that bill.

Teenagers were having sex LONG before 2016...back in the dark ages of the late 70's they were having sex to Black Sabbath, The Eagles, Skynyrd...IF I remember correctly (now I may be wrong since I'm old), those bands did very few songs that were about sex. But then again, songs about sex are not a new invention...find another reason, k?

In a perfect world, minors would wait until marriage to have sex. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world; and since we don't, it is necessary to have sex education and also have condoms available for those that are going to have sex anyway, despite what we all want for them, so they will not get STDs or bring an innocent baby into the equation.

Also, for those that claim otherwise, teachers are certainly not the ones giving out condoms, and many schools do NOT have school nurses anymore. Instead, this burden (including sex ed) falls on organizations that partner with schools that work in conjunction with social services.

Um no most HS girls are totally aware that they can get pregnant from having sex, even just the 1st time, even during your period. If they don't know that then there were some serious gaps in their education.
Sadly in much of the US, adequate sex ed is not provided, and in many cases not even required to be accurate (and in a few cases IIRC, it's required to actually be inaccurate as far as scientific reality goes). The joys of the RW christian prudes.

There was no sex education in my school, I did not know any of these things until much later in life.

I dodged a huge bullet by not being interested in sex, otherwise I could have made a huge mistake because of this a lack of information.

Meanwhile, back in the 1980s, in my bible belt state, sex ed was covered in middle school, it was rehashed again in freshman health class, and everyone got the separate boys and girls puberty talk in the fifth grade.

Unfortuately :(

There are so many things that need to be changed so that people, especially young people and teens, can make informed decisions about sex. From knowing that they have to use protection to have it, to being aware of the risks so they can choose to not have sex at all.

I was in high school just three years ago, and did. There was a rumor going around school the year I graduated that drinking a cup of mountain dew before you had sex would stop you from getting pregnant...

One that has been popular in the past is you can't get pregnant if the girl is on top.

One that might not be covered in health class is that double wrapping is NOT better. It seems reasonable if 1 condom is good 2 are twice as good, the problem is latex can stick to latex and then tear. Also the classic condom in wallet is not good care, the condom will degrade. Not as bad for the Don Juan that gets some every week, but for the poor smuck who has it there for a year before using it the odds shift to condom failure.

And please avoid coca cola douches, it won't provide significant help in preventing pregnancy and could kill you.

the problem is alot of sex education isn't just no education, it's negative education, alot of lies and such.

And the problem is not a sexulized world, the problem is that the age at wich kids hit puberty is lower, while the age they are supposed to get married and have sex acording to some people is getting older. Absitnence is something kids should strive for, but we need to get rid of this childish mentality of, "If we don't tell them about sex they won't have it." funny how the states that follow the mentality of the OP have the highest teen pregnancies and rates of STD's, while states that have proper education don't.

I'm so sick of this childish morality that becomes imorality because instead of equipping kids with the lessons they need we want to shelter them and just expect the world to go along with that.

The the classic "if the girl does jumping jacks afterward she won't get pregnant".

Not only does it bother me that proper protection isn't being taught to everyone, it also bothers me that consent to sex and specific acts during sex isn't taught. My brother once boasted about this "cool move" he was told about in high school that involved hitting a woman on the neck without warning during sex. Specifically he was talking to my cousin, I was just in the room. Before I could open my mouth to lash out at him, my cousin did, which really surprised me since he is a few years younger than my brother.

You're definitely right! I hadn't realized I was blessed with that education. I know I'm getting a really great education overall but with this in particular I hadn't known we'd been taught more than other kids. We had to take a wellness class in middle school that covered all of this, plus other stuff about puberty. It was just at a regular public middle school in WA. I go to private school now. I haven't even taken my Health class yet in high school. I might not take it bc AP Bio has health education & can count for both. I will take 1 or the other next year but I already know the basics about sex. If my school hadn't taught me my parents would have, not bc they're worried about my sex life or anything, but they just want me to be an informed person. It's just part of what you should know in life. I guess now that I think about it maybe where I've grown up has made a big difference bc I've never lived in an area that had a lot of religious fundamentalism. It's only been from here that I've been exposed to that stuff.

Is there conclusive evidence about whether this is due to sexualization or improved health? Just curious. I always leaned towards the latter, since it's the bigger/taller girls who generally start puberty first and get their period sooner (AKA the ones who can physically bear a child).

last I heard no evidence it was from sexualization, it's likly a combination of a few things, one I heard is nutrition, we do see this in the animal kingdom that animals are more likly to go into heat when food is plentiful and they can support more children, could effect the age too.

Oh and gahhh I will fix that :> It was meant to be, "The problem is NOT a sexualized world.
