  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think I know what you mean... You maybe mean some people who have this problem might be good or a lot better off if they made some no spending days maybe, if anything, just to get them thinking more about their own spending maybe, or what's essential and non-essential to them, or a the difference between a necessary need and a want maybe, etc...

And I think I agree that something like that might help them maybe, or be a step in the right direction maybe, etc...

God Bless!

When I was a boy my mom would send me to the corner store with one dollar, and I'd come back with a loaf of bread, a can of spam, a hunk of cheese, a box of cereal, a carton of milk and five candy bars.

You can't do that now.

Too many security cameras.

Have any of you done a no spend day, week month or even year?

I frequently will have several days or even a week where I spend no money. Once bills are paid and essentials are bought I try to spend no additional money. When I started it was not always easy, now I finding pretty easy to do.

I have managed to pay my debts. I have no credit card debt, no student loan debt, no car payment and no house payment. I only have the standard bills such as insurance, utilities, food, etc. This is helping me prepare to eventually move "off grid".

I typically go for several days between spending on non-essentials. Although I'm frugal, I also have hobbies. Most of these hobbies are relatively inexpensive, or involve equipment that I can sell if necessary. For a profit, in some cases. Grocery shopping is monthly, and I rarely eat out. The only debt I have is what's left of my mortgage. While I could pay off the mortgage by tapping into savings and retirement accounts, that wouldn't be ideal in the long run.
