  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

yeah, lol remember the y2k scare, as a kid back then, i seriously thought that all electronics would break down

Yeah, that was fun. All I remember actually happening from Y2K was the Pokémon website clock being a little out of sync. Lol.

i gotta admit though, there's a weird sense of excitement knowing the possibility of such things but I'm sure that when it happens, panic will ensue lol

i guess what would be most worrisome would be like people who need life saving machines...

lol made me wonder how people in the past communicated with each other like the indians sending smoke signals.
In the old days you didn't have modems. You just had telephones, and they always worked.

true, amazing how time flew by, i still remember a couple years back, my parents always had a landline phone installed. But now we dont, we have our own celphones. But looks like it only takes little power to operate a landline phone. I don't think I know anyone anymore who uses landline.

I use a landline. I guess I am old-fashioned.

that's actually better, because even in a blackout, it would still function, especially if most of your contacts are using landline

I would literally be out of a job and career. I don't know how soon I would be able to access my financial assets. And if "all electronics" includes starter motors, my car would not start. I'd be in a pretty bad position.

There's another similar sort of problem coming up - in 2038 we'll reach the point where it's been 2,147,483,648 seconds since the 1st of January 1970. The reason that's a problem is that computers store time using the number of seconds, and 2,147,483,647 is the largest number that 32-bit computers can handle. 64-bit computers are fine, so the natural progression of technology will help eliminate this problem to some degree, but there will still be systems for which it will need to be addressed.

Just read recently that Laura Ingalls Wilder is in trouble for apparently being "racist".. towards Native Americans... can we give some people who were born in the 19th century somewhat of a pass.. perhaps not people like Adolf Hitler.. but if you were a white person born in the 19th century.. you can't expect them to meet the PC standards of today..

This reminds me of school project poster by a student my mother told me about that asked if the internet stopped working:

Son: How am I going to play my online game?!
Daughter: How am I going to chat to my crush?!
Mother: How am I going to look up my recipes?!
Father: How am I going to do my work?!
Grandfather: Back in my day...

While I know the point the poster was trying to make, society has move on to the point where things like the Internet are an integral part of modern life and for it to suddenly stop is going to cause huge disruptions. If it was a gradual phase out then things would be different, but I don't know how much people should be criticised for have difficulties coping when cut off from something without warning.

What would you do if suddenly all electronics malfunctioned? No electricity, no celphone/smartphone, NO INTERNET?
Will you be able to survive?
What kind of emotions will you be having?

I think I would have a panic attack lol. It's weird but, I feel like I'm so reliant on my phone specifically, it's like a limb to me. It's honestly a scary thought.
That sounds wonderful for a day or two. I could take a break from all the work.
It would be annoying to limit communication though... i think the food might start going bad too.
But this could be worse for many others and society in general. However this is unrealistic.
We always have access to power and electricity.
