BALTIMORE --A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Here is the whole story. About time these Haters were made to pay. This should go out as a warning to all those who spew hate. The law is going to get you.

I'm kind of glad to see Phelps and company got fined.

I have no sympathy for war protestors at the funerals of our fallen heroes. Really dispicable behavior.

Was this marine that died gay? Not that it really matters in a situation like this.

You know Phelps blames homosexuals for the war in Iraq, but you know he more than likely voted for GW.

I wonder how he would feel if a bunch of gays protested the funeral of somebody in his family. I don't wish them to die, but he should get a taste of what he dishes out.

The sad thing is that this won't stop him. If anything it will make his madness even worse, and even tho right now I can't think of anything worse he could do then what he already has been doing........................somehow I think that he'll come up with something.

He was over at a school a few miles from me, with awlful signs because a new kid at school was wearing a shirt that said he was gay.

The only problem I had was the school had a rule that no one could wear shirts with words on them, but the ACLU was suing the school because they made the boy go home and change. I don't believe it is right to say he was being discriminated against because that was the schools rule years before he ever came there. So he should have to obey the rules just like anyone else in the school should.

Anyhow the signs and the things that were being yelled at the school, about this kid were just to terrible to even repeat.

So as I said this will not stop him and will sadly probably make him even worse.

Were you not the one, who made disparaging remarks against the Military, regarding there Intelligience ? I asked you if you served, and you made comments that were disparaging against the military.

Looking for a fight? Sorry, most people are opposed to Mr. Phelps and his group. Not exactly "divine" punishment, but it gave me a smile.

Thought I would just point out the fact that Phelps lost because of what he did to the parent of a soldier killed in Iraq- not because of his hatred for homosexuals.

Hope you got that because it is wrong to gloat this as being a victory for gays at the expense of the suffering of a fallen hero's parents.

Phelps is not a war protestor. He is an anti-gay protestor. Phelps has called for more soldiers to die. He also plans to picket the funerals of the young people killed in the house fire this past week. His website is at http://www.godhatesf#gs.com. That link won't work, because the Christianforums site won't let me post it, but just substitute an a for the #, and you'll get to the Phelps website.

What? Can you please explain what you just said?

Last year Fred Phelps was planning to protest a church-sanctioned marine funeral in our community.

The churches joined hands with the community and barricaded the cemetary.

Phelps didn't show up. tisk tisk.

He would have gotten more fundamentalism from us than he ever prayed for.

Such would be easier to believe if Phelps’ message and ideology not continuously repeated here on these forums

There are people here that believe that we are at war because some people believe that homosexuality isn't a sin, and that is God's punishment to us?

Boy, I sure have missed those post, could you give a link please.

I have not seen anyone posting here who is as extreme in their views as Fred Phelps.

It's a free country, so with that comes the "ok" for people like this maniac to be able to assemble in our country. The problem is, they are invading someones PERSONAL space when it comes to funerals, etc.. Just the TYPE of person that would do this, and THOSE that would FOLLOW shows you how morally corrupt people are in our society..not to mention psychotic. I hate these sorta protests, but @ the same time, I would like nothing more than to see some counter demonstrations that show God hates this country b/c of radical fundamentalists like this man using the word of GOD spewing HATRED!!! Truly and utterly unbelievable that groups like this exist! Let them try to do something like that in the Northeast. They'd never get away with it. That's why the weak hang out in our plain states where they can get away with such unacceptable behavior as that. Not to go off topic here (but I wll), I only read this week alone all the backward activity going on in our beautiful bible belt. 22 out of 54 cities with the highest number of "drop out schools" belong to none other than OK and TX! HIghest # of pregnancies for girls 15-19...TEXAS and over 25% of them are SECOND CHILDREN!!! Highest rates of homocide...Tulsa/Oklahoma city.... In OK alone, less than 48% of hispanic women graducate HIGH SCHOOL!!! These are stats for 2007 in the USOFA!!! Shocking!!! yet this is where they hold to the bible the hardest, strongest... wake up people!!! Clearly the record shows why they have all their made up churches there..they can get away with it in a dumb/backwards society! Is everyone in our beautiful bible belt unintelligent and a high school drop out?? of course not..but let the record show...the highest concentrations come from there. Ignorance sure is bliss.

As much as I detest Phelps and his methods, I defend his right to do so. Unless a jurisdiction has a law against picketing funerals, he has the right to do so.

I really don't think any of this money will be collected.

You can't start fining people because they don't like what you stand for and aren't afraid to say so.
