  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wow, the 2nd new christian in 24 hours to be preaching against the evils of secular music
Please read this with an open mind. I am not trying to scare anyone but I want to share with you the cons of secular music.
OK...
The devil is behind a majority of it and he deceives most people into thinking it is ok to listen to.
That's a wonderful conspiracy theory you have there *pats head ..all you need now is to communicate it in a way that doesn't sound like...you know..

As far as nightmares.. blah blah ..awake in my dream, could do nothing to move and feeling all the pain and then would wake up and remember everything.
Yep the subconscious can relate some pretty convincing sensations to your sleeping brain ...I don't see what this has to do with music or demons though infact, it sounds to me like you were being (somewhat literally) tortured by your own guilt.
Just like that movie Poltergeist and White Noise.
mmm...funny that, are you perhaps an impulse buyer too? you seem easily influenced.
Music was invented to praise God and man has corrupted it with the help and influence of the devil
Wow, I've heard some totally unevidenced statements before but never "God owns music"
How does this music associate with Christianity?
I don't know ..what does the bible say about death metal?
My demonic oppression got so bad that I had contemplated suicide because it got to the point where I could only sleep 1 or 2 hours a day out of complete exhaustion.
That would be the sort of thing that professionals would treat ...blaming demons on maladies seems so ..archaic ..scary
I became a Christian in 2002 and threw out my cd's. After a year I bought them all back and when I saw the Passion I threw them out again
I was worried that you were easily influenced ..I was justified it seems.
I just don't want to see anyone get into what I did to myself through music.
I have very serious doubts that what you went through was a direct result of music, and someone who seems as on edge as you are is perhaps not in the best of positions to dispense with advice.
Seriously, take a step back and look at your situation before you worry about anyone else.

God Bless you all.
I told you!
These posts always end with this message.

i would go as far as to say, your saying these things because your a new convert to the faith and two, the way metal affected you, you let it hurt you. music can only go so far. so what if he was once an angel and head over music or whatever. the fact is, metal is a new genre. you can't call it evil because it uses technology with it and plays hard, fast and heavy or because they scream and sing. if their lyrics are evil, ok then call it what it is. but some secular bands, have important things to say that need to be heard even in the metal scene. now in metal, yes i know there are some pretty extreme dark bands. even then tho, when those bands aren't talking about how dark they are, or how evil they are or talking about stupid things, and they have something to say about things, they seem to be intelligent people, i just may not believe in their "dark-religion". doesn't mean i can't listen and enjoy the other songs they produce that aren't all about that dark stuff.

i would advise you to go as Paul said, "Do not burden your brother with your freedom." it is great that God has touched your life in whatever way He sees fit. but still, your convictions are still YOUR own convictions. there are plenty of Christians out there that are right along with those convictions, and who are not right along with those convictions and still have a strong faith in God.

that might be your problem.

when you specifically listen to "satanic metal", that's a little bit different than your average U2, or Jason Mraz.

don't think that just because you listened to that and had certain convictions and experiences, that everyone else has to follow them. To each his own, you know?

it takes all kinds. that's what i always say.

I just want to say jarswhoo. . .I went through EXACTLY what you did. . .and I am not a new Christian...I knew better. It was a terrible time. I got so tired of being so afraid all of the time. The music isnt worth it. I say this to offer encouragment, although it doesnt seem uplifting. . . .when you make a decision to walk boldly and full on for God, the devil doesnt like it, and will try to do anything to hurt you and stray you, but he cant if you dont let him. Im not saying that it is a good measuring tool if satan is after you..to measure how well you are doing...that is NOT what I am saying. But hold fast in that you are doing what God wants you to do, satan will try to discourage you, and pur fear in you, but you belong to Jesus, and if Jesus is for you, who can be against you? The devil is a liar. . .and has lied even through music. God bless you, and may you walk strong in faith forever.

It's watered down frilly music. The whole culture is out of touch. It's comfortable.
It's an industry of saccharine devotion. All mashed potatoes and no meat.
We live in a land where no one wants to look beyond the cover of the book and "christian" music is no exception. It looks good, has a nice sound we can all clap our hands to, and gives us warm fuzzies when we sing it. But it has little or nothing to say. And such is how life is lived. A smile and a handshake in the foyer. "How are you?" "I'm fine." No one is fine. But the music and happy smiley people will make us nice and cozy for a while.

Meanwhile divorce is through the roof. Drugs and alcohol run rampant. Adultery is a behavior some people try to justify. Our kids get home from church and slice themselves to ribbons, and express all their pain through anonymous internet identities because they can't tell their church "family" how they are really feeling becaus ethey have found that expressing their pain is only met with judgment.
And on and on and on.

As a new Christian I am more interested in posting threads on this secular music site and answering questions that non-christians ask. I used to listen to Satanic heavy metal for the past 11 years. Through the music I opened gateways for demons to haunt me. The devil is for real and all he wants to do is kill your flesh. If you don't have a relationship with Jesus then you go to hell. I am not saying who is going to hell but in JOHN 3:5 it states that no man can enter into the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and spirit. If you don't give your life to Christ Jesus then you live for the world. I feel sorrow for those who think there going to party with the devil when they die. I am covered in Satanic tattoos, I am 6'7" tall, weigh 330 lbs. and used to visit the mosh pit frequently. However this is the power of Jesus blood for it forgives you of all past sin, present sin, and future sin. At the same point in time you can't willfully sin. You may hide this music from people at church but you can't hide it from Jesus.

As far as nightmares go after opening gateways the demons came at me in dreams and then the dreams turned physical. I would be awake in my dream, could do nothing to move and feeling all the pain and then would wake up and remember everything. I also went through spiritual hauntings as far as unexplained sounds and seeing things move. Just like that movie Poltergeist and White Noise. If you think this sounds cool your wrong because the demons find out what scares you and they keep pushing those buttons. when you listen to these types of music it also grieves the spirit of God. How can you praise Jesus when there singing about sinning at will. Music was invented to praise God and man has corrupted it with the help and influence of the devil. Next time you have a nightmare ask yourself if listening to this music is really that cool. Is it worth it to open gateways for demons to haunt you just because the music sounds so good. I used to justify the music and say I didn't listen to the lyrics. This is most peoples deception. How does this music associate with Christianity?

My demonic oppression got so bad that I had contemplated suicide because it got to the point where I could only sleep 1 or 2 hours a day out of complete exhaustion. Once again you can listen to whatever you want and I am not judging anyone. It just worries me when I see Christians who listen to secular music especially Satanic stuff. I became a Christian in 2002 and threw out my cd's. After a year I bought them all back and when I saw the Passion I threw them out again. Three months later I bought them all back and sank further into the darkness. I just threw them out for the final time on 1/3/05 after having an out of body experience with a demon.

I can only advise you to turn from secular music and learn to love Christian music. Once your heart is in it, it will be more enjoyable than any secular music. I know it is a hard thing to do because secular music dominates the world and there is persecution from the world for listening to Christian music. Just remember this life is a flash in the pan compared to eternity in heaven with the Holy Trinity. Secular music starts out as a foothold for Satan and then turns into a stronghold for Satan. Do you want to give Satan and his fallen angels an invitation into your life. I am only telling you this to warn you. Please don't take offense to this and if you do I am sorry. I just don't want to see anyone get into what I did to myself through music. The devil is no joke but he is defeated in Jesus name and as children of God we have his protection. This doesn't mean we can listen to bad secular music though. Just think about it with an open mind. God Bless you all.

No offense, but you have NO idea what you're talking about. Yes I've read it with an open mind, as I have with everyone else who's said the same thing. Complete and utter bull.

I quite agree. From what I've heard of it, secular music is much more willing to address the ills of society than contemporary Christian music.
