Kids who sleep with nightlights before the age of 2 are more likely to be short sighted and need glassed than kids who sleep in the dark. (10% to 34%)
Meletonin production is hurt by not sleeping in darkenss. This in turn hurts the bodies natural rythyms for sleeping and waking putting adults and children in a state of sleep deprivation.
There appears to be some correlation betweeen melotonin production and the growth of some tumors - they grow faster when there is light at night.
Only sleep at stage 4 (really deep sleep) releases Human Growth Hormone that not only helps us grow, but also repairs injuries to the body. Children who sleep with lights on get less stage 4 sleep.
