  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Terrific series, unbelievably exciting game 7. Glad to see Rod Brindamor lift a Stanley Cup. How about Aaron Ward's (an ex Red Wing) first goal. Start to finish - great playoffs. I'm excited for Cam Ward winning the Conn Smythe (it was very sweet - he didn't hear them call his name and they had to tell him to go get the trophy) - but thought they might go off the winning team and choose Chris Pronger - his ice time, his constant willingness to give 110%, his head's up play - he'd have been a good choice also.

I love seeing the whole team pose on the ice with the cup - always gets to me a little. This was the first time I remember seeing a team bring their wives and kids in for the pictures though - that was very touching.
Now I go into my semi-mourning period until September:sigh: Baseball and soccer just aren't the same.:(

My much admired and respected Steve Yzerman just announced his retirement from the Detroit Red Wings.

IMNSHO - this is the best hockey player to ever put on a pair of skates. I realize that he doesn't have the numbers of a Wayne Gretzky, Gordy Howe or Mario Lemieux. But day in, day out - season in, season out he went to the rink, consistently went about quietly doing the job he was paid to do. He epitomizes team leader. I'll continue to follow hockey (I love the sport), but it won't be the same without him. His retirement will leave a big void in the Wings line-up (and locker room).

p.s. - the 19 in my user name represents Stevie Y's jersey number.
