  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey! Is anyone watching the NHL Playoffs this year? If so, which team are you rooting for?

I know who I'm rooting for, since my team (Toronto Maple Leafs) is out. I'm going for Nashville! Oh, and I also want to say taht Tampa Bay better beat the Ottawa Senators, or I will be very upset! Hate that team with a passion... due to the rivalry, of course!

To the glory of God,

Randy

Yes... Go Hurricanes!!! I gotta hope for at least three away games similar to 2002's "Miracle at the Molson".

I'm a Leaf fan too, so i feel your pain. Me, i'm goin' for the Sabres just because i grew up watching their games here in Toronto so i've grown up with a soft spot for the team from the 'Queen City'

A Sabres - Flames/Oilers final would suit me just fine!!

Absolutely am watching. Toronto is always my eastern conference team (does it get any better than Tie Domi, Mats Sundin, & Darcy Tucker?). Will be interesting to see if they look at Mark Crawford as a coach (I hope not only because I don't like him - but he is a terrific coach).

Anyhow - I'm cheering for the Red Wings (as anyone who's read my profile knows)(I have 19 in my user name in recognition of Steve Yzerman). Fortunately tomorrow's Saturday and I can take a nap - these overtime games in later time zones are killing me - it's getting harder to stay up until 2:00 a.m. and still get up for work the next day.

Anyhow, I see no reason to think that they won't win their series with Edmonton. I anticipate a 4th Stanley Cup this year, although one never knows.

I failed to mention that I'm rooting for the Oilers in the west... nudge-nudge. ;)

...I still haven't forgotten 2002.

So in my little dream world, it'll be Canes/Oilers in the finals. :D

So far this playoff series reminds me of 1992 Wings/Devils - with the Oilers playing the role of the Devils. The Wings seem to be getting a better grasp on it this time around though. I expect them to win in 6, however won't be surprised if it goes to 7.

That said - Roloson has been standing on his head - he's truly been amazing. I've always liked Michael Peca, he's one of those players who doesn't realize that he's small. And Chris Pronger - he learned well from Al MacInnis down in St. Louis - I'm always amazed when players don't jump out of the way when he winds up for that slap shot.

What I'd like to see is the officials back off a little bit. Not sure how the Oilers stats are for the year, but the Wings have been one of the least penalized teams and they're getting 22 penalty minutes now. I've seen blatant stuff ignored and really weak calls (both teams). The officials need to step back and let them play.

Yeah. I agree.
There's been some very questionable officiating in the Canes/Habs series so far. Many officials are proud and even vengeful at times when their calls are questioned... too bad the instant replay can't be used on penalty calls... and non-calls. :sigh:

btw... BIG win by the Canes tonight in Montréal!!!

Are the Canes still in it? It's been a busy week and I haven't heard much other than they lost two in a row.

Yeah... it's been a strange series. They lost the first two at home then went to Montréal and won the next two. The series is tied 2-2 now and the Canes have home-ice advantage back... I hope that's a good thing.

Alright - OUCH!!!:sigh::mad::sigh:

I'm still expecting the Wings to win the series - but they really don't have to add to my stress level like this.

Never ceases to amaze me that a team can dominate like they do and still lose. Other than the middle 8 minutes of the 2nd, the Wings pretty much controlled the game.

Anyhow -not that it will make a difference, but I'll be cheering for the Lightning tonight (being a Leafs fan I just can't make myself cheer for Ottawa)

Yah... predators lost :( It doesn't look good for me, my picks are not doing so well. Tampa lost too! Like... bah! Ottawa HAS to go down. I will be happy with any team winning besides ottawa! Being a leafs fan, I just cannot cheer for them, even if they are a canadian team.

But to be totally honest, I think New Jersey is goign to win the cup. I mean, they do hvae the most experienced goalie, and not to mention the best one. They swept New York unexpectedly. It's like "Where did that come from?" I may not be rooting for New Jersey, but I seriously think that they are going to win.

Unfortunately for detroit, I think edmonton will beat them.

As for leafs coaching, I'm hoping that we hire mark crawford, BUT i just know that they will hire Paul Maurice, who is pretty good in reality, he did lead a staalless carolina hurricanes to the stanley cup final a couple of years back. Pretty cool stuff!

Maurice is a good coach. But you can't forget who the captain was on that '02 team... Ronnie Francis. I think Crawford would be a better fit in Toronto.

Looks like the Canes will face the Devils (their ultimate playoff rivals) if they finish off the Habs. They did really well against Brodeur in the regular season... I think they have as good a shot at taking them down as anyone in the league... but I'm with you. As hot as the Devils are right now (especially Brodeur and Gomez), they are the team to beat.

Very sad about the Red Wings, but sadly they just didn't get the job done. I'm saddest because I'm thinking I likely saw Steve Yzerman play his last hockey game - but as always, he played hard start to finish.

I'll be switching my allegience to the Eastern Conference now and will be cheering for the Sabres and Hurricanes in the east. Because I still want a Canadian team in the finals I'll be semi-cheering for Edmonton and Calgary in the west. That said, I'm expecting a Colorado/New Jersey Stanley Cup final.
