We're probably going to use a more-conservative varient on the Doering thermal-only system. The studies for that had a high accuracy rate (though they used more experienced couples), especially for the period 3 temp rules. My fiance isn't too eager to read through all the studies, and trusts my judgement (which I think is probably better than his when it comes to interpreting studies anyways - I've had more science classes, and am more comfortable with technical literature). We'll probably add a day of abstinence at both ends of the period 2 phase of abstinence, as the CCL recommends, and maybe be even more conservative for determining the end of phase 1, since that's where most NFP method failures occur (which are still pretty rare).

Shannon,

I wish there was a pro life "Catholic" doctor I could find. All the doctors I have had look at me like I'm some kind of religious fanatic. The one I currently have who I do trust is very competent and is taking every precaution there is to reduce any risk is trying to convince me of having the tubes tied because it is becoming a reality that this one will be the last.

Here's the link to LA :http://www.omsoul.com/nfpbyst.phtml?st=LA -- dunno if any of this is close to you! I have a doctor here, but also an NFP-only Gyn- about 75 minutes away in Atlanta... that way I always have a second opinion...

well the thing is (I dont want to get too graphic) she always has mucus, so external observations do not work for us, and checking her cervix is not working because her hormones have it open/shut almost sporadically.
Her temperature is all over the place, but it does actually shift 4/10th of a degree when she is fertile, but that is not very helpful for us because, her cycles are not trendable. She tends to be 20-40 days apart, and its a roll of the dice each time.

CCL's central office told her that she badly needs to find a doctor and given the extremely strange results of her chart, they are almost positive she will need natural hormones. We are contacting our NFP instructors to find out if they know any good NFP only doctors around here.
Her diet is good, but she does not take vitamins, and CCC said that may help...
we'll just have to see a doctor and go from there...
This is a variation Billings accounts for- as your wife will need to identify what is fertile mucous for her. One infertile pattern is always having mucous, but I would check out the website, see if they have an e-mail help form or something...

Where are you guys??

Is it okay to have your wife use hormones to regulate her cycle for the purpose of avoiding intimacy when procreation is likely/possible?
That is a good question:scratch: I know that hormones are permitted for medical reasons, but I have not heard of using a combination of NFP and hormones.

This would seem to be very useful for women with very irregular menstrual cycles. I would check with your priest or the Bishop of your diocese.

geodude,

I know women vary, but wondering if your wife is thin, or exercises alot. Even if her diet is good (good foods) if she doesn't eat enough, is under a lot of stress - which heavy exercise might be a factor, then she is likely not getting enough nourishment.

It just seems to me, when I hear about various problems from women, the thinner the woman the more likely she is to have screwed up cycles of some kind.

For me the more active I am, and less I weigh (not now, lol), my periods would come closer together. Though fairly steady at 21 days when I'm thinner and 24 days right now - I was outright fat, IMO, to get to a normal 28 day cycle.

I realize your wife does have other issues, but thought it was a maybe that she might eat good food but not be getting enough. And the gov't has finally said we just can't get enough vitamins from food and need to supplement. She might even be shy on a mineral like copper.

Hope the docs can help out on that.

Marcia

Hormones are okay but not B/C pills. You may use them (B/C) but you must also abstain if you do. Hopefully if it comes down to this it will straighten itself out after a month or so on them.

Also, that Atkins diet can screw you up too.

we just went and spent a fortune on some organic vitamins at GNC to see if it helps, and she is a size '2', so she is pretty thin, but thats normal for her, she is eating 3 squares and some snacks - I think she eats as well as I do anyway.
Shannon sent me some good info on doctors we can visit, we'll just have to see what the blood work reveals and go from there.
I am pretty excited the more I think about this... lots of doctors treat these types of symptoms with birth control pills, but they do not treat the problem, just the symptom. I am wondering if my wife will just be happier in general once her hormones are more in check - she is happy now, dont get me wrong, but I wonder if this study of her body will help more.
I think this will result in a good outcome :)

Hmmm, take size '2' times '5' and that would be me on the thin side, lol. I know it varies with height as well, and I'm either 5' 6" or 7" (doctor claims the latter). Still that sounds impossibly small to me. I can't recall ever being below a 10 in adulthood - might have been because I know I had weighed less but didn't buy new clothes at some point.

The vitamins might give her a good start. A glass of chocolate milk a day might not hurt her either.
