I watched the Superbowl yesterday because my 8 year old son wanted to. I noticed that there were commercials that seemed to validate and empower women. Then the half-time show started. I turned it off and had to discuss with my son and my two daughters why it was inappropriate. Men artists at the Superbowl are celebrated for their music but women artists are celebrated for their bodies. I wonder how many Christian men would stop supporting the NFL until they realize that women are not eye candy and should be respected for their music as well. I know they do it because there is a lot of money to be had. But if christian men would take a stand, that is a majority of the men in this country, could it help?
Since you are an atheist, why not start a group of atheists dedicated to reigning in what you see as harmful messages? It might play to a different, but increasing audience, and not get the same blowback as the same message from religious quarters.
In any case, I did not watch the show either, so cannot comment on the content.
