  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm hoping for Pius.......we haven't had a Pius in awhile.

They have to choose a name? I figure your going to tell me because Peter's name was changed. But God gave it to him, verbally. So they really choose a name?

Well, how much of a vote did we get about the original apostles?

I mean, traditionally, Christianity is not a democracy. Well, sort of it is; one God, one vote.

Since Rome has made jestures toward trying to be reconsiled with Judaism, with the Pope making somewhat of an apology to the Jews in Jerusalem, it makes Jean Claude Lustinger a linkly cantidate. This man is very "likable" and well received by heads of state. He is rather charismatic in personality, (if not flambioant at times). And he is born a Jew, who converted to Christianity. He has the respect of the concil of cardinals I understand. He might be able to provide the sort of face lift the church would like to have for the beginning of the next century. Just my thoughts on it.

The choice is made through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  God knows what is best for the church, are u questioning this?

I've given up trying to figure out who will be the next pope. People have been speculating since almost the beginning, and many of the candidates originally speculated about are dead or retired by now. John Paul II is tenacious and may outlast the current list of likely candidates also.

The Council of Cardinals gathers in Rome, and they vote on candidates. Through prayer and guidance by the Holy Spirit, the candidates are chosen, and the Council is placed into a room with no outside interference. After discussion, they cast paper ballots. If there is no agreement, the ballots are burned in a stove located in the room with them. Material is added to the paper to create a black smoke. The faithful await in St Peter's square, and watch for the smoke. Black smoke = undecided.

Once an agreement is reached, the ballots are burned again, and when the smoke is white, we have a new Pope!

As for input by the Catholic congregations, Peter was chosen by God, when the Father in Heaven gave him the insight to understand that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God. After the Ascension, the Disciples gathered and together chose Matthias to replace Judas. The Apostles and their successors are awarded the power of the Holy Spirit to make the decision.

Peace be with you,
