The PS3 will be revealed in May of 05 and won't see a stateside release until 2006. The Crackbox 2, on the other hand, will probably be out by late 2005. Designer specs have already been sent out to all the major publishers and developers. Who knows with the gamecube.

ps3 will be revealed earlier than that, but it will first be shown (with possibly a demo game) in may.
i personally will be getting a ps3, from what ive heard and been told it will be better than the xbox2. also ive been told that there will be 2 versions of the ps3, one for people who just want to play games (you can add stuff on later if you want) and another one with every option included (network adapter etc but most likely not a HDD)

Everything will be revealed at the E3 convention in 2005. A demo game for the PS3 is likely, but still, most of the games being developed are on emulated units, being that the developers "think" that particular unit is what the PS3 will be like.

Now, imo, Xbox2 has nothing new to offer to the whole technology feeling while the "Cell" Processing cpu from the joint venture of Sony, IBM, and Toshiba is revolutionary as far as processing capabilities are concerened. Now whether or not we actually see the realization within the next three to four years is anyone's guess; Intel and AMD are still battling over the powers of the latest 32 bit chipsets, with Intel on the way of releasing its first 64 bit chip to battle the already aging FX series chips. So you can see, while consumerism drives technology for some advancement, its really up to the publishers and developers to push the units to their limits, ie, current gen games like Killzone and Halo 2 vs everything else.

As far as I can tell, the Xbox 2 won't be backward compatible with Xbox 1 games.

I've heard neither X2 or PS3 will have hdds. That's stupid imo unless they have a better idea. Xbox is the first console I've owned since NES and I really like it. A big part of what I like is being able to download content, virtually unlimited saves, copying my own music to the hdd (more games should take lessons from GTA3 ;) ) and not having to fiddle with memory cards.

And no backward compatibility with X1 games? What kind of absurd...wait, nevermind. I forgot Xbox was a Micro$oft product. I will see what happens with the new consoles before I make any kind of decision but most likely I'll get a PS3 simply for the vast library of games I can choose from. Heck, I'll probably get a PS2 so I can play EQ: Online Adventures since M$ scratched TFLO.

i still think that ps3 will edge out the xb2.. but we'll have to wait and see.

also ive heard that ps3 wont be able to play ps1 games, but will be able to play ps2 games.

Wait, who here said the Cell chip was a good idea? Well, maybe in bizzaro land. The Cell is probably the worst thing they could do. Why would publishers (who are already strapped for cash) want to develop exclusively on a console that extends development time? It's just a bad move when they can go to other more developer friendly consoles.

Now for something a little less interesting, Rumor Control:

X2 and BC - still nothing is confirmed, but it's a really stupid move on MS's part to not include this feature to the X2. MS may make stupid moves, but they aren't retarded.

HDD - Again, nothing confirmed. MS doesn't want to put in a HDD because it's so expensive. If they don't add it, it will really hurt their online system. If they do, it's going to take a lot of cash out of their pocket. And no, they will not be using Flash Drives, that's just common sense. No word on Sony's standings on the HDD. But it does cost money, something Sony likes to horde, so I wouldn't expect it.

You guys really love those old games???

I have always been a hardcore 'competitive' gamer. And for those like me, its all about the lastest awesome game.
Not to say I never play the older games, maybe once in awhile for fun. But not to the level I play the new ones.

Besides, I'm not getting rid of my Xbox when I get the second one. So I can still play both systems, if I so desire.

I'm supporting xbox.
They are an american company, and as an american, I like to play the lastest games when they come out, not 6 months down the road.

But if PS3 has something really special to offer, I'm game for it as well. But from what I hear, all of the new systems are going to contain plenty of power to do anything the programmers throw at it.
If that is the case, then the first one out of the gate, will have a major advantage over the others.
