• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi,
I am 18 years old and last week was put on anti-depressants. This has been tough as no one in my family has ever been on them and no one relaly understands how tough it is. Im desperately want a place where I can feel that people understand what its like...somewhere supportive I guess. Not to say that my family isn't supportive, they totally are and are so awesome.
I go to church regularly and my dad is acutally a pastor at my church. I have always been seen as the perfect one so I guess that put alot of stress on me.

Anyways, enough of me just going on....I hope this is a place that I belong!

BTW, how do you know when anti-depressants start working? I just cant imagine what life is like not depressed?
Like I am happy usually but other times I am quite down. Like its not like there is a certain time when Im depressed that I can look at and see if I am beginning to be happy during those times.

Does the number by yuor name (17) mean your age?
Are you on anti-depressants crazylittlep?
It happened so fast I think I am still trying to get used to the idea what I do have a problem and there is a reason for why I feel this way. For years i Have thought I was depressed but my parents/doctor said that it was just a teenage thing basically. Well last week I went for a checkup and mentioned how I was feeling and she said that she thought I was depressed and thought very strongly that I should go on medication. So two days later, I started.
Are you involved in your church? I am the nursery coordinator and do alot of music within the church and occasionally teach sunday school for the little ones.

Most antidepressants don't fully take effect for 4-6 weeks, but it depends upon some variables, for example, if you don't take it as presecribed, it will take longer to go into effect. Some antidepressants start working even faster than this so it depends on which one you are on. Also, there are some antidepressants that give you some initial "side effects" such as making you sleepy which helps with insomnia, a common problem in depression so you start to feel better right away, but they still haven't taken full effect for a few more weeks.

Keep track of your moods, for example use different smilie faces such as : :) , :sorry: :( to track your "worse" mood of the day and your "best" mood on a little calender where you also record your monthly cycle... you might find that there is some way to predict your mood a little.

(This doesn't mean the medicine isn't still needed. You might find that your monthly cycle coorelates or you might find that it is certain days of the week that you tend to feel worse, like "Wednesdays.")

I do hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi,
Ok maybe Ill start doing that.
Im changing my meds to morning again to see if there is any difference. I did notice when I took it in the morning, the side effect of not being hungry lasted during the day and therefore Ive lost 6 pounds in 6 days :D Weight is a huge issue for me even though Im at a good weight (122 pounds and 5'5).

Dear Forever, sorry about your situation. It must be hard being thought of as the perfect one all of the time. Many people think just because of their relation to the pastor, that they are supposed to be perfect. That even the pastor suppose to be perfect. It is just untrue though. We all make mistakes. We all get into predictaments such as this. Just don't give up. You have friends here and we know how you feel. I will pray for you. Best Wishes. Heather,
I would talk but I just put Garrett down for his nap and I need to go clean up the mess and get some bottles made. Hopefully tonight after he is gone to bed I can chat.
There are many people willing to listen! I am here if you ever need to talk! :yum: Lily00
