I'm a non denominational Christian, accepted Christ in 1976. I have called myself a Baptacostal at times because my theological beliefs seem to be between the Baptist and Pentecostal beliefs. Went to Bible college, not ordained.
Was raised Seventh day Adventist and was sent to Adventist schools but moved away from that denomination and walked away from God for many years before returning.

I'm in my 70s and still have many theological issues I'm always attempting to understand or reconcile but I suppose many of us have those struggles.

There are a lot of variations in Baptist beliefs here in the U. S. Some are Calvinist and others are Arminian, and among the Calvinist Baptists some are very strict and others claim you're saved no matter what you do.

That's quite a diverse background, I think you've come to the right place. There are a broad base of beliefs here, always nice to have someone with diverse views to start a conversation.

Yes, and not all Pentecostal churches are the same, either. But I did not mean that any Baptist church body would do.

Rather, I was thinking that out of the whole range of them, there are some which would be compatible with her beliefs as a Pentecostal Christian, even if some other Baptist bodies (and Pentecostal ones) would not work for her.

I will say as one whose background at one time was mostly Baptist and Pentecostal ... if that's what you know they can seem like polar opposites. Though in recent decades I see a lot of baptist fellowships becoming increasingly "Pentecostal" in flavor (and sometimes the reverse), such that there is a LOT of "bapticostalism" out there.

Yes I know.

Forgive me, I'm not trying to argue. What I mean is that if your theological world consists only of Baptist and Pentecostal, they often SEEM like polar opposites. Many Baptists and Pentecostals think this is true.

They aren't usually comparing themselves to the broader aspects of Christianity.

Not that im trying to speak for our new member. No disrespect is intended. I was only hoping to clarify.


And I agree they are not really opposites and in fact share a great deal. Forgive me for not being clear.

That is also very true. I suppose you would say I'm a liberal side of the Baptist beliefs. However liberal does imply saved no matter what. To me a follower of Christ is one that attempts to live his commandments, What was the greatest commandment?

Hi, I'm new too but starting to find my way around. Like you I'm non-denominational and asked Jesus into my life in 1977 in the C of E but left after a few years when God convinced me that I should be baptised. I'm out of fellowship at the moment though. So it's good to connect with other Christians online.

That is so true, the church I attend has a Baptist pastor (his education and background) and a Pentecostal associate pastor, it is a very nice blend, with some wonderfully entertaining debates. It is a small community with one church. We have Nazarene, Lutheran, and a mixed flavor of backgrounds.

Yes Mark it is, and caused me a great deal of confusion for many years. I love my SDA brothers and Sisters but can't accept some of their teachings, they are a wonderful group that like other Christians put their faith and trust in Christ.

Thank all of you for the warm welcome, and questions. I believe it would have sufficed to just say I'm a non denominational Christian but as my wife says I have a strange sense of humor.

I'm very firm in what I believe, but I'm always open for correction. Most importantly to be led by the Holy Spirit.

When there is civility and love between people, I really enjoy discussions between folks with different theological backgrounds. That's quite a mix!
