• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello. I'm not new to the site, just to depression. I've dealt with high anxiety & panic attacks for ten years and so I usually post there. However, seems like very few folks are on there anymore. Starting this past February, depression kicked in. It's been horrible feeling depressed and dealing with panic too. Plus I began waking at 2, 3, & 4 and not being able to fall back to sleep. Doc has tried three different meds to help with this, & none work.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. Any sleep tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Jess. Thank you for sharing your situation. I know that depression hurts and often one gets a sinking feeling that things will never get better. The most important thing is to turn this thought aside. Remind yourself that countless people have recovered from depression through God's grace and you will be happy again too.

One of the best ways to combat both depression and sleeplessness is physical exercise. The harder you work out, the better. Exercising during the afternoon or early evening is better. Do not exercise right before going to bed; that will make the sleeplessness worse.

Thanks for writing back. My pdoc mentioned exercise today too. I've not felt like working out but I think I need to just bite the bullet and do it.

Hi Jess, welcome to this area of the forums
I'm sorry you're suffering this way - depression is horrible.
Don't give up on the meds, sometimes it does take a long time to find one that works!

God is with you and loves you no matter how bad you are feeling - he has promised never to leave or forsake you, and he *will*get you through it
Praying for you, sister.

Yup. Very true.

My doctor talked to me at length about exercise and my depression. When you exercise it releases endorphins into our brains, those endorphins help with our depression.

Nice to meet you Jess73
