When you hear them outside in the trees Lori, you can sort of get the feel of how many there are. We used to have them come sit on our mailbox and laugh when I was a kid. There aren't many around where I am here, it's mostly galah's and white cockatoos. Galah's are the biggest crackup with some of the antics they get up to, and when the babies want food the noise is atrocious.
We have a little ditty, or chorus, here in OZ that all kids are taught in school, maybe someone could tell us who wrote it, but it goes like this:
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree..
