Hi all

Just letting members know that we have restructured the Politics forum in light of the recent issues we've had in there. These changes are to assist in the moderation of the forums. There are now new subforums under the main Politics forum:- Non-Participant Commentary & Debate Invitations

Essentially, the current Politics forum will be closed in a few days time. We want all new threads to be made in one of these subforums.

Politics
- US - Republican
- US - Democrat
- US - Other Parties
- International Politics
- Formal Debates
There shall be forum-specific rules in these forums - these will allow party-party debates but not debates by others not belonging to that party - e.g. Republicans can debate with Republicans in the Repulican forum, but a Democrat cannot go in there and do so. Any inter-party debates should be done in a formal manner in the Formal Debates forum.

The Politics moderators will be posting these forum-specific rules up as time goes by.

Edit:
The main Politics forum is now closed for new posts. Please post in the subforums. Relevant threads will be moved to the subforums by the moderators.

Out of curiousity... What makes one a "Republican"? From my recent experience, it seems to me that my tendency to vote for Republican candidates leaves me still rather an outsider among the self-identified Republicans of this forum.

I think segreation is a bad idea, (I'm flip-flopping according to DeltaJ I bet), especially since those that don't have the Christian icon can't post in those forums :(.
Erm, the Politics forums are still open forums....

Well I can say I much prefer the total interaction.
In theory, I would agree with that, except much of the interaction hasn't exactly been polite and friendly. Too much taunting and the like doesn't aid effective communication, let alone influence attitudes.

can we have non American moderators and maybe moderate-liberal moderators for the non Republican subforums?

There used to be at least one non-American moderator on the Politics forum. I don't see her around anymore. Matter of fact, I don't see any non-American, non-conservative moderators on that forum.

And I sincerely doubt that you'll ever see any such thing on the new forums.

I'm a conservative Republican, but I think it would be a good idea to have at least on liberal moderator for the Democrat forum, and at least one non-American moderator for the International Politics forum. It might make people feel more comfortable to post there if they knew one of the mods shared their views.

Just my $0.02. :)
