• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello, I am a Christian with Asperger's and I am new to this forum. Let me just say that it is a real relief to find this forum and talk with other Christians who are also living with Asperger's Syndrome. I look forward to talking with the other people in this forum.

My opinion is that Asperger's Syndrome is not a bad thing. It is part of my personality and with it come both strengths and weaknesses. I think God made me as a person with Asperger's Syndrome for a reason and wants me to use Asperger's for His glory.

While I acknowledge the strengths of Asperger's Syndrome, I also acknowledge that Asperger's has some disadvantages. I think that Satan tempts Christians with Asperger's in unique ways. The troubling thing about it is that I often go through struggles and temptations that no one in my church it seems can relate to because none of them have Asperger's and are going through the same thing. When I am tempted with regards to Asperger's, it can be a little difficult because there is very little literature or awareness about how to view Asperger's struggles from a Christian worldview.

I'm sure I am not the only one with this story, and I think that is one of many good reasons why this website can be useful.

AspergersChristian555 ... its nice to get to know you. I too have AS or Aspergers Syndrome. Its nice to get to know people with what I have got and here is the best place to do it. Yes, its a real relief to talk to other people with what we both have e.g gomatadors and seeingstars :) ;) :)

Yes, Aspergers Syndrome has some good stuff in it and in my way its a way to see other people with disability's e.g people in wheelchairs and not judge them for how they look but who they are inside of them. I have done that and in a way it taught me to respect people for whom they are and thats what I like doing most. Thats right but Aspergers Syndrome is a part of us all and no matter whether we get rid of it or not we still have it in our lives and our hearts, that is what I believe and I guess other people think the same but I am not so sure on that fact.

Hi Aspergerschristian555, I'm a married mum with Asperger syndrome, and I agree with you about how life can be for us. The way life is for us can be a mystery for many other people, and it's often difficult for churches and their leaders to know quite what to say or do to help. I find that I need a lot of reassurance sometimes, or worry about things that others don't. Or find it harder to 'switch off' from some things that seem not to worry other people at all. Difficult sometimes for a church to take our needs into account, but there's more of us than there are wheelchair users.
I was having a conversation with a church leader today, who was wondering whether it would be good to have things like the Bible re-translated/re-explained to make it easier for us to understand some of the metaphors and language in it, for example. People who are blind can get braille Bibles and books, so it can't be impossible to find something that helps us really understand our faith, I think?

Hey Celestialographer (just popped in and saw you posted after me so I thought Id say a quick hi and other stuff). Many people here have AS or autism (well this is what I think) but its always nice to meet new ones like all of u apart from me because I think I am a regular here :) Ill start up a thread for you in here if you want me 2 (its the same with you amberlight if you want me to ... thats if you dont have a thread like this one). Its always nice to hear from people with Aspergers Syndrome and hear what they are up too. 3 of my favs I like to hear from are kittystorm92 (she has a son with another syndrome), seeingstars (he has AS like us 5 in here) and gomatadors (again with AS). I love to catch up with 2scoops information about AS and autism. You might be on the list of people I like to catch up with one day, same with you Amberlight and Aspergerschristian55. I just like to chat with people in here (already in a relationship but wont go into detail here but maybe through PM)

Yeah. I hide out in a church of about 3,000 people and I don't really participate in any of the groups so I really have no idea what others struggle with. But I imagine I'm in a similiar boat.

When I am tempted with regards to Asperger's, it can be a little difficult because there is very little literature or awareness about how to view Asperger's struggles from a Christian worldview.
You mentioned God wants you to use your aspergers to his glory. With the present rate of 1 in a 100 children being born on the spectrum, there's a serious need here in the near future. Maybe it's you to start something??

Welcome.

If two people with Aspergers married and had children would they end up with even worse children? If Aspergers is Genetic then I wouldn't want my Wife to Have Aspergers Syndrome. It just increases the odds that my children will be worse then I am.

They do believe aspergers has a genetic piece, however I don't know if that means they would be worse. It would increase the odds of having a child on the spectrum, but I don't think it means they would be worse.

If this is a real concern of yours then by all means listen to it. Don't put yourself in the situation where you may end up having to live with guilt. But also keep in mind that having children with a NT partner doesn't garantee that you won't have a child on the spectrum. My wife is NT and we have two kids. One is on the spectrum, the other is not. You never know whats going to happen.

NT? I find that the Standard Full Color Bible, New International Version, Really helps a lot. When the Pastor is talking about a passage I have no idea sometimes what kind of three dimensional context he is working in. Then if I flip out the tab and look at the Color Coding of the text I suddenly understand most of the meaning of that text. It is color coded into 12 colors which stand for God, Discipleship, Love, Faith, Sin, Evil, Salvation, Family, Outreach, Commandments, History, and Prophecy. It is true that some information can overlap. But I think that it was color coded to display the best interpreted meaning of the text. Remember the Bible is Multifaceted, Interdimensional, and Benevolent.

Several years ago I realized that my Old Bible, the one my Parents bough for me when I was a child. Was color coded by my own disorganized note taking and highlighting techniques. Then suddenly I asked myself, what if the Bible Was already Color Coded? When I checked into it, I realized that sure enough there it was. A couple versions were on the shelf at the Bible Book Store. So of course I bought the most expensive and most detailed and informative one available. It was only about $20 more than the other I think.

My younger brother has Aspergers. He is only 12 years. He is a Christian.
My brother and I differ hugely. He enjoy computer games and I was wandering if this is a common thing with children with Aspergers?
It is hard on an older sibling with a brother/sister with Aspergers, It would be nice to speak to someone in the same situation as me. Thank you -Lilo ^_^
