New member,but lots of x's to quit

Hi , I ran into this website thought....that's all we need is Christian prayers & support .I've smoked 27 yrs now & tried to quit many x's,it's soooo hard. You hear ppl say I prayed & God just delivered me,well....that doesn't work for me yet,I tried chantix that made me wacky ,nic inhaler,I quit for about a month ,the patch is what i'm going to try & tomorrow going to the Pastor to see if he can help & pray for or with me. I'm so frustrated,i'm being so convicted & that Nicodemon has me thinking about it again! I also bought online the quit book that's on here,so basically i'd just like to introduce myself>Chris & ask that if you can help & pray for me.,that would be great! I know in the end God wins , but the flesh is so weak & my mind!

Some tips that really helped me, are write a list of the reasons you are quitting and everytime you get a craving think no and the reasons. Quitting is alot of mind talking the first little while. Your body will say I want a cig and your brain has to say back no I dont smoke. Remind yourself that everyday it gets a little easier. Pretty soon those thoughts and wants fade away. The first couple of weeks are the hardest get through those and you got it.
Drink real juice that helps with the foggy brain you get at first.
Deep breathe, make a fist and press the thumb part to your mouth and breathe deep this really worked for me to take those initial craving away.
There are alot of sites on the net with tips and also good health reasons to quit

Did you quit cold turkey or with aides? I've been thinking about journaling,how long have you quit?Think I might try the patch...

Hi, welcome to the site. I will be praying for you. I know the pain. I have been quit for over 2 1/2 years now. I am like you in the sense that I felt convicted to quit but it was not a one prayer deal where it all went away in an instant. I worked hard at quitting and have worked hard to stay quit. It was not easy but you can make it.

The first thing you need to do is overcome your initial cravings. Find ways to distract yourself. Some people use candy. Others drink water, exercise etc. Find the thing that makes you forget smoking. Note - it is important that you don't use this as an excuse to get addicted to something else. Taking up a new hobby would be the best idea.

There are many suggested websites and I like the quit website in Australia - http://www.quitnow.info.au/ It is very useful. All I can say is read (as mush information as you can to help you quit and stay not smoking), reward (do things that remind you why being smoke free is wonderful like saving your money and buying an expensive pair of shoes), pray and be paitent with yourself. It will get easier but the first steps are always the hardest!

I sugest you actually look at pictures of what it is doing to your body.. Quiting has become reutine for you and you need to re-establish how importaint it is to quit. You also need to realize that it is not easy and that you have not been able to acomplish it ever. A true quit is a commitment to never take another drag off of a cigarette. Did you know that cigarettes will make you deft too. yeah, damages the blood vessels in you ears. When you are good and ready, When you are sick of what cigarettes has done to you, when you realize how you are slowly rotting your lungs so that you can hardly breath. that is when you throw it all away and commit to never ever smoke another cigarette. No gums. no medicine, no cutting back, just your day! God bless you and pray for that day!

Most sincerely good luck to you and hang in there. I hope that in the three month since your initial posting things are going well.

As I'm writing, I'm a mere 2 days into quitting but I'm working through it with just two things.

1. A bit of advice I got was, when you feel the craving to smoke then tough it out for 5-10 minutes until the next craving. So far it seems to actually work. When I feel like smoking I consciously remind myself that I am quitting, that I only have to resist the current craving, and the Lord will give me the strength I need to make it through this battle.

2. I'm doing this for the Lord. Not for me, not for my wife, not for my wallet, or my health, or my children (if I'm blessed to have children), but for the Lord.

I got plenty more I could give on the whole issue but I'll save it in case I'm going through a bad patch and I need to occupy myself typing.
