• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just started taking Zoloft 50mg a day but I have started having panic attacks, especially in the morning when waking up. Has anyone else experienced this and does it get better as I get used to the meds. It seems to help my thoughts but when I'm in a panic my mind just flys and i have terrible thoughts. Any help appreciated.

Anti-anxiety meds have always made me feel loopier at first. It is supposed to get better in four weeks however I could never stand to get past that point. If you can make it to the month-line then it will probably get better. I was actually reading a therapist site once that said "In OCD an uprising of symptoms at first is actually a good sign that the medicine will be beneficial." I don't know why but that's what I've read. Perhaps it is the body adjusting to the serotonin levels?

The last medicine I was on, Celexa, had me afraid that I was going to hurt someone. I know that sounds crazy but I have never had that symptom before so I stopped taking it. It also made me feel like my brain was "sweating". Don't know what that was but it was very strange.

So you weren't having panic attacks before you started the meds? You might want to call your doctor to make sure this is OK. I have been on several different SSRI meds & only recall some occasional dizziness, but they affect everyone differently. I tried Zoloft once but broke out in a rash.

My husband, however, experienced an increase in anxiety & panic when first starting this type of medication & it gradually went away as he got enough of the meds in his system.

If it turns out this particular med is not tolerable to you, don't give up because there are plenty more out there.

Well I'm still on the Zoloft and some days I think it's helping and other days I think it is making me worse. I been on it for about 3-4 weeks so maybe I'll start leveling out soon. I read on here that one lady had a friend who got worse on zoloft and tried to commit suicide.....wish I hadn't read that......makes my anxiety worse when I read things like that...my ocd goes right into high speed, starts thinking the worse........I really hate this disease.
