I have been studying the ancient Hebrew calendar for over ten years now and come to the conclusion that the strange numbers in Daniel are repeating formulas for finding intercalary years. (leap years) It was a luni-solar system but different to the modern Jewish calendar.

John quoted some of these in his Revelation, so presumably he knew about it, but the old calendar was not being used then as originally given to Moses. It is not my intention in this thread to argue whether John was saying the ancient formulas would be used again, or whether he was using numbers symbolically. I just hope to explain how they worked.

Hang on to your hat! :cool1: 1260 days coming up.

I don't believe we should read riddles into biblical prophecy. We do find a strange kind of pattern in the way Scriptures compare to Scriptures, and a weird sort of way biblical truths relate to things that happen in our lives. All of this is due to God's ability to control everything in our lives, and anticipate everything we would need in the Scriptures.

There is no secret knowledge to be revealed by certain smart people who have direct line to God. If symbols and riddles are used in Scriptures at all, the context of each element will demand it. It won't be hidden there waiting for some prophet to untangle it, explain it, and thus become an essential messenger from God.

The time periods you mention have a direct and clear meaning in the time they were given and for the people they were given to. And scholars have been able to make pretty good guesses as to what they meant.

The Antichrist, or Little Horn, of Dan 7 will reign for a "time, times and half a time," aka 3.5 years. This is confirmed in the book of Revelation, where the Beast reigns for 1260 days, 42 months, or 3.5 years. They are all the same period of time, and originate with Dan 7 and the "Little Horn."

The 1290 days, as well as the time periods in Dan 8, relate to the reign of Antiochus 4. This is historical information, and not riddles. They had a practical value to the Jews who read about them.

I hope I don't come across that way. I want to explain calendar astronomy simply and scientifically. No riddles, promise.

The 1260 days

The 1260 and 1290 days were part of the seven-year sabbaticals given to Moses in Leviticus 25 and they kept repeating for each cycle. They were a formula. But a little background first. Today we are told the Hebrew calendar had two New Years, a ‘religious’ one in Abib and a ‘civil’ calendar starting in Tishri. The Sabbath years are said to start and end in Tishri. However, this is not how it was in the beginning. Our scripture is Exodus 12:2,17

“This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It (Abib) shall be the first month of the year for you … for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day, throughout your generations, as a statute forever.”

Now, here is our formula in action:
  1. Go to any seven-year cycle.
  2. Find the middle year.
  3. Find the Day of Atonement
  4. Add 1260 (or 1290) days
It will always count to the first day of the next seven year-cycle! In the case of 1260 days, there were 42 months. (cf. Rev 11:2) In the case of 1290 there was an additional leap month. This formula worked like clockwork from Moses until the Greek era when the Jews began experimenting with a different New Year.

Time, times and ½ time coming up.

Anyone who has spent 10 plus years studying a topic certainly deserves a fair hearing. Sounds good so far. I'm listening.

Calculators out please. :expressionless:

A recent seven-year (shemitah) cycle was 2007 to 2014.
  • Find the middle year. = AD 2011
  • Find Tishri 10th = October 8th, 2011, (Astronomic date = 2455842.5)
  • Find Nisan 1st = March 21st, 2015, (Astronomic date = 2457102.5)
  • Deduct the two dates = 1260 days!
Our last seven-year cycle was 2014 to 2021. In that case, the astronomic count from the Day of Atonement in the middle year until the start of the next cycle was 1290 days! This formula is repeated from Moses until our present era. Although no longer in use, it exists beneath the surface, and can be found on standard calendar converters.

May I bring to your attention several things? The major feast dates had more than their spiritual significance. New Years Day (1st Abib), Passover, (14-15th Abib) Pentecost (6th Sivan), Day of Atonement (10th Tishri), and Jubilee Year (50th year) were all strategically placed to tie the calendar formulas together.

Also, the ‘time, times and ½ time’ is not the same as the 1260. I’ll elaborate soon and throw in some diagrams from the ‘Atonement Clock.’

It puzzles me as to why you would think that when Revelation 12 clearly proves that is the case. First it mentions 1260 days then it mentions ‘time, times and ½ time’, where, mathematically, ‘time, times and ½ time’ = 1260 days if one is adding 1 + 2 + 1/2, where the 2nd number is twice that of the first number and that the last number is half of the first number. If 360 is the first number that obviously means after adding all these together it then equals 1260. That couldn't possibly be a coincidence that it works out like that.

CG, it is the 1290 days and the 1335 days specific to Daniel 12:11-12 that we are concerned about - as associated with the abomination of desolation setup in the end times. Abomination of desolation is in v11.

Matthew 24 there are two terms of tribulation that are associated with said abomination of desolation standing in the holy place (location).

1. the great tribulation, v21 (1335 days long)
2. the tribulation of those days, v29 (1290 days long)

Both begin when the abomination of desolation is setup, placed on the temple mount. BUT have a different ending event. Which are:

1. the sign of the Son of Man in heaven.
2. the coming of the Son of Man.

Both in Matthew 24:30....

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Daniel 12:12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Which is to the end of the great tribulation, the day Jesus returns.

The tribulation of those days, in Matthew 24:29, the 1290 days, is to the day of the sign of the Son-of man in heaven.

So why the difference of the 45 days?

The AoD setup>>>1290 days>>>>to the sign of the Son of Man in heaven>>>>>the armies gather at Armageddon 45 days>>>>>to Jesus descends to the Mt. of Olives, His Return, Second coming, in power and great glory, the 1335 days completed.

The first number is 365.242. It never was 360 - never will be, unless the earth suddenly speeds up. I'll try to explain soon.
Which it will!
What does 'the earth will be moved from its place', mean to you? Isaiah 13:13
So why the difference of the 45 days?

Douggg has changed his tune!
You have always said the extra 30 and 75 days were before the AoD.

However your tune is still discordant, as it will take far longer that 45 days to assemble the armies from all around the world, at Armageddon. Revelation 16:12-16

Both the extra 30 and 75 days, are past the 1260 day between the Aod and the Return. They will fulfil feast or special celebrations, AFTER Jesus has Returned.

Interesting.

How about we wait until Mr Gedge expands on his idea fully. Before we start jamming the OP with a thousand different opinions.

No, I have never said that. And there are not "extra" 30 and 75 days.

However your tune is still discordant, as it will take far longer that 45 days to assemble the armies from all around the world, at Armageddon. Revelation 16:12-16
They don't need to come from around the word because they will already be in the middle east fighting against the beast in the battles in Daniel 11:40-45, when suddenly, the sign of the Son of Man appears in heaven, the sixth seal event.

Both the extra 30 and 75 days, are past the 1260 day between the Aod and the Return. They will fulfil feast or special celebrations, AFTER Jesus has Returned.
Again, there are no "extra" 30 and 75 days.

That's your big mistake. The AoD is not setup on the exact middle of the 7 years, i.e day 1260, but in the midst, or middle part of the 7 years.

The AoD, the image of the beast, will be setup, placed on the temple mount, on day 1185 - not day 1260. From day 1185 to day 2520 the day Jesus returns is 1335 days.

Since you ask, I think it means a 'New Heavens and a New Earth' is around the corner. I doubt the calendar will settle on a 360-day rotation if the earth is knocked off orbit.

Hi Christian Gedge,

Interesting. I too have been studying God`s Calendar and learnt also that the Jewish calendar does a leap year every 3 or so years. Here are some of my calculations from God`s word.

Dates of Festivals.

The Key point here is to count out the days and see where they are on the Jewish calendar. These relate to the Jewish Festivals and the days from the rule of the anti-Christ.

Anti-Christ `s Image - 9th Av (Temple Desecration)

The anti-Christ gets an image of himself set up in the Jewish Temple. This is the abomination of desolation, placing himself in place of God. (Rev. 13: 14 & 15) This occurs exactly on the 9th of Av, which is the Jewish greatest day of mourning for their Temple desecration.

Jesus` Return - 29th Kislev (Hanukkah)

Jesus comes in great power and glory and brings the tribulation to an early close. This is in the time of Hanukkah, the Festival of lights. During the 8 days - 25th of Kislev to 2nd of Tevet, the Lord returns dealing with the world`s armies and delivers Israel.

Counting back from the 15th of Purim on a Jewish calendar (75 days) we find that the Lord returns on the 29th of Kislev.

Jewish Calendar - Length of Months.

I_____________________I____(30) ____I___(29)_____I____ (30)___I___15th Kislev Tevet Shevat Adar

Temple Rededication - Tevet.

When the Lord reveals Himself to the people of Jerusalem they go into mourning. (Zech. 12: 10 - 14) After that they will seek to rededicate their temple at the end of the month. (Dan. 9: 24, 8: 13 & 14, 12: 11, John 10: 22)

New Year of Trees - Shevat.

Israel celebrates this month as the time of the Trees coming to fruit. In the tribulation the waters have been polluted, however the Lord brings fresh water from Jerusalem and out to the seas to cleanse them.(Zech.14: 8) The trees then grow and produce fruit. (Ez.47: 12)

National Celebrations - Adar 15th (Purim)

The cities of the world had fallen in the great earthquake so life will be agricultural. (Rev. 16: 18 & 19, Micah 4: 3) Thus from all over the world the Jews will be brought to the land of Israel - on horses, in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels. (Isa. 66: 20)

Then it will be the time for the Festival of Purim, the national celebration of deliverance. In Jerusalem it will take place on the 15th of Adar. (Esther 9: 18 & 19)

This will be 1,335 days from the anti-Christ. (Dan. 12: 12)

There is no Jewish Temple on the mount. We don't even have a theocratic nation of Israel.

How can the image of the beast be observed in the Jewish Temple?

Israel is a secular nation and has only recently appeared on the world map. For two thousand years Israel did not even exist.

We are in the age of the Gentiles and have been for two thousand years.

Luke 21:24
And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Many Jews are still living in foreign nations.

When will the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled?

I strongly doubt that Jesus will tell secular Israel to build another temple.
