• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I just joined the forum and thought I would say hello, Im diagnosed BPD, anxiety disorder and anorexia nervosa. I just had a month stint in hospital but with support from my DH and family Im out again and my medication is stabilized. Im currently waiting on psychotherapy and possible psychoanalytic therapy.
Its nice not to feel so alone, I have found that in some Christian circles mental health issues arent really talked about. Fortunately my current pastor is fantastic and has been very supportive.
So hi all!!

Hi there,
You are very perceptive to see that mental illness is sometimes not socially acceptable among believers in the Lord. That is such a shame that such a stigma exists in this day and age.

I applaud your working on getting better. Therapy and medication combine to make it possible for changes to take place. Good luck and God bless.

Hugs,
Trish

Thanks for the lovely welcome.
madison1101 - it is extremely sad that there is such a stigma, I myself don't care what people think of me. I only hope that by speaking out (as I feel the Lord has given me the peace and courage to do so) will help those still affected by the stigma. I have seen the good come from speaking out - I did some youthwork in Uganda and saw 5 boys come to the Lord after hearing my testimony and seeing the scars from my SI. It's always so touching to see God use the worst in us for his Kingdom :)

Praise the Lord for your testimony and willingness to be honest. Scripture says that our past can be used to minister to others. (Can't think of the verse off the top of my head right now.)

When I was first diagnosed in 1990, there were few Christians working in mental health. I decided to pursue a career in it, and am in the process of changing careers as a result.

God bless your boldness and courage.

Hugs,
Trish

Trish, that is so fantastic to hear! I have met so few people in mental health who actually cared. I am fortunate enough to now have a fantastic psychiatrist (and the first one to actually give me a diagnosis and treatment plan) after many years of trying to fight the system, the system telling me there was nothing wrong with me.
I would love to know what verse that is if you think of it!!
