Not really.

You can't poll <100k people (ie: Gallup) to test the pulse of 330M Americans. The sample size is too small.

Not really -- It could be that 16% of people want the wall to keep people from entering illegally, but feel no urge to punish the children of those who already got in.

Under a false premise of mercy we concede to break the law, or even change the law to deliver injustice to millions of Americans? Looking at the big picture, I cannot see how we would call it merciful to grant criminals, who dragged their children (or someone else's children) miles across a desert, citizenship at the expense of those who did all the right things, entered legally (whenever that was) and attempted to follow the law. I don't hear many Christians siding with this secular flavor of "mercy" in a perverted sense as proposed.

Ok, so we would know who won. So what's the purpose?

The bill is designed to prevent implementation of the national popular vote compact – a multi-state agreement aimed at circumventing the Electoral College.

Ah, we can't know who won the popular vote, if they don't make the vote totals available. Unless this catches on in more states, it's not likely to have much effect since there are fewer than a million people in all of North Dakota.

Interesting tactic. It'd be kind of clever if ND wasn't so small as to be basically irrelevant.

Correct -- with their children, who presumably had no say in the matter and are thus, innocent of any wrongdoing. Punishing children for their parents' actions may be Biblical, but it's not how we do things here in the U.S. of A.

Now, one may very well say, "Aha! But they're still in the country now benefiting from their parents' illegal acts!" Which is a valid point, but consider:

Two parents, let's call them Joe and Mary, commit a crime -- they rob a bank.

Why would they do such a thing? Turns out their 4-year-old son -- let's call him Jack -- is very sick. He needs a kidney transplant, Joe and Mary have no insurance.... etc., etc... I'm sure you've heard the story before.

Well, the bank heist goes off without a hitch, and Joe and Mary use their ill-gotten loot to pay for little Jack's new kidney... but the case remains open.

Sure enough, eighteen months after the robbery (and a year after the surgery), the police catch a break in the investigation, and Joe and Mary are caught. They're going to prison (as criminals should), and little Jack's heading for a foster home (tragic, but unavoidable)...

"There's just one more thing..." the judge says after passing sentence, "...we're going to need that kidney back. You see, since it was paid for with stolen money..."

Fair or unfair?

Of course you can.

The sample size is too small.

Statistically you only need about 30 data points if they're truly random.

You may disagree with some people's opinions listed in the poll, but that does nothing to support your skepticism that those people actually hold those opinions.

I would wager that the sample leans a certain way anyway, and doesn't truly represent the views (holistically) of the majority of Americans.

President Trump publicly supported (or at least gave lip service to) the idea of Congress passing some sort of protections for Dreamers in exchange for his wall. Only one example granted, but a really prominent one.

A bill to restrict ballot drop boxes, require more ID for absentee voting and limit weekend early voting days passed the Georgia House on Monday amid protests that the proposals would make it harder for voters to participate in democracy.

The bill now heads to the state Senate, where a committee voted Monday to end no-excuse absentee voting, which would require most voters to cast ballots in person. That legislation could receive a vote in the full Senate within days.

Like I said, if the data points are random, you don't need much more than 30 points to represent a population, whether it's a million or 300 million. Your original claim is mathematically wrong. If you want to take issue with Gallup's polling methods, feel free (there's a certain margin of error in any poll), but they're about as good as any polling organization and their track record proves it. And PLEASE, don't beat the 2016 election horse again, because that was within the margin of error and changing quickly due to Comey's re-opening of the investigation.
