  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know if there's a more appropriate place for this or not - but I didn't want to start a new thread:
Our parish Greek Festival begins today. (Greek Fest is 'fun' right?)
It's a great time but lots of work and I find it enjoyable but also a bit disruptive.
Our family came to the parish Greek Festival several times before becoming Orthodox, so there's a warm spot in my soul for this event. Just in case someone else wanders through in the same spot I was in some years ago; I'll make sure the narthex is well stocked with brochures about Orthodoxy. Picking up 'What on Earth is the Orthodox Church' and "A Timeline of Church History' in one of our Greek Fest trips was influential in our ultimate conversion.

In our parish, those are kept (all the time, not just Festival) on a small table opposite the candles in the narthex. There's a few differing titles in a small rack.

It just so happened that was the titles there when our family visited back in 2013. I picked them up..
There's no promotion or anyone manning the area, they're just there free for the taking.
I think I prefer it that way, in fact I would've likely turned them down had someone been trying to distribute them back then.

We had some (different ones) in the Narrhex for a while and ran out a while back.

I'm always in the Church, usually our choir director is too, and Father when he can be. Sometimes someone else. We try to be available to answer questions, chat, whatever folks want/need. I wouldn't be trying to hand anything out. Right now we really couldn't afford to try to do that with everyone who comes in. But having them available for people to take if they want, or some people want some info to put in their hands before they leave - I'd like if we have something to give them. Father usually offers a 4-week series of talks soon after the festival and we give out flyers to anyone interested in that, but more concrete info rather than only "come back and we will tell you more" seems like a good idea.

I'm suddenly actually very invested in this idea, but as usual it's late for this year.

I hope your festival goes well and bears much fruit!

A little explanation is needed Over here the postal people are supposed to put a note through your door if they can't deliver a parcel - sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they run away after putting the note through without giving you a chance to get to the door

I love this!

And I love my kitty ... but there was a time (on the farm, when mice coming in to steal feed were an issue) ... she used to catch them and bring them to me if I was in the bedroom, and turn them loose. They could get under immovable furniture and escape. I used to fear she would bring them directly to me in bed and turn them loose.

I still have that concern with lizards. But since I rescue them from her and set them free safely outside, she is slowly getting disgusted with my lack of hunting instinct and giving up on teaching me. I hope.
