Okay, after a whole day of coding I've created an integrated Wiki for CF. This is a new CF Christian Wiki Project - an attempt to create an authoritative community-based Christian encycopaedia on Christian topics, edited and updated by the general public.

Click on the icon in the header:
hdr_bttmbttn05.jpg

or go to the Christian Wiki forum section to take a look.

The CF Christian Wiki works similarly to Wikipedia.

There are 7 categories so far:

Churches & Denominations Wiki
The Christian Wiki for different churches, congregations and denominations.

Doctrines & Theology Wiki
The Christian Wiki for different doctrines and theology.

Christian People Wiki
The Christian Wiki for Christian people and matyrs.

Geography & Archaeology Wiki
The Christian Wiki for geography and archaeology.

Church History Wiki
The Christian Wiki for church history.

Apologetics Wiki
The Christian Wiki for apologetics including defending the gospel and information about cults.

Miscellaneous Wiki (1 Viewing)
The Christian Wiki for miscellaneous Christian topics.

At the moment there are NO Wiki Articles yet except for a Test one I created here:
http://www.christianforums.com/t2626023-test.html

This Test article shows you how the system works - you post like you would a normal thread, but you also use 3 new code tags which you can see in the Editor Toolbar at the top next to the Bible Tag image:

anchor.gif
= [ANCHOR] Tag - this allows you to anchor a heading.

jump.gif
= [JUMP] Tag - this allows you to create a link to jump to the corresponding anchor of a heading.

wiki.gif
= [wiki] Tag - you wrap significant terms with this tag so they become links to other Wiki articles via our search engine.

To see an example of how it works, click on Edit at my Test article.

How a Wiki works is this:

1. A member creates a Wiki on a Christian topic.

2. Any other member can then edit the Wiki at any stage to update or correct or improve the Wiki. Any edits will be logged as a new post in the Wiki thread.

At this stage, only Christian members who have been added to the CF Wiki Team can create or edit CF Wikis. If you want to be part of this project, please PM me, and I will add you. I am also looking for someone to be the "coordinator" and to help me set up a team too.

Let's see if we can create a definitive Christian Wiki that can assist other Christians when they are researching Christian topics! :)

As expected, this is not true!

As with many things around here, this Wiki (a misnomer also, since it is clearly NOT accessible/editable by all members here!) can only be added to or edited by "true" Christians!

In that respect, this project can only provide a limited source for e.g. Christian Denominations, as members of some denominations are not allowed to participate or correct wrong information about them within this Wiki!

I wonder why you have called this project a Wiki, since it obviously isn't one!

By the way, I'm still looking for:

1. A main person to head up the Wiki Team who will be responsible for appointing other members of the Wiki Team.

2. More Wiki Team members - if you are interesting in creating or editing Wiki Articles, PM me at this stage (until I get someone else to take charge of this project). :) Anyone who is directly appointed by me gets to be a Foundation Wiki Team member. ;)

If you want to restrict editing to Christians only, I can see that. But I think it would be responsible and advisable to make it available to non-Christian and non-Nicene Creed Christian members so they can grow and learn also. Basically this should be available to enrich all as an evangelism/dicipleship tool and not just a "preach to the choir" thing.

As this is specifically a Christian Wiki, at this stage I'm going to restrict the creating and editing of the Wiki by Christian members only, as defined by our Forum Rules. No different to any of our Christian-only sections/forums really.

Your restrictions on who will have access to this "Wiki" goes, by its mere nature, against the concept of a WIKI! A WIKI is a storage house of information about a general or specific subject accessible/editable by ALL! Non-Nicene Christians and Non-Triitarians are not allowed to post/edit/correct any entries in this "Wiki" of yours, and thus your "Wiki" does not fullfill the basic definition of a true Wiki!

Why not call this project something like "CF Christian Online Almanach" or something like that? Then you may exclude and present one-sided views as much as you like.To call this project a WIKI; however, is perverting the essential meaning of the word and concept of a Wiki!

The Wiki can be read and accessed by ALL, including non-CF members. But like most Wikis, it can only be edited by some - otherwise a troll could easily come in and delete everything.

Way different.

There is already a section on "Mormonism" that will allow obviously allow the dissemination of incorrect information as it won't allow those who actually know our beliefs to edit them. Imagine a Wiki article about Catholics that excludes Catholics from contributing?

Call it what you like, but it isn't a wiki any more than Microsoft is Open Source. It's a closed shop.

Erwin,

Could you add how to get onto the Wiki team to the Wiki rules? This thread will be buried in the not too distant future.
I think this would be a good idea. Although I already sent a PM to Erwin, I wasn't sure how to join the Wiki Team just by browsing the Wiki itself (which is what most prospective CF Wiki Team members will be looking at).

This makes the assumption that only members of a particular group can make true statements about that group. I do not share that assumption.

Now, given the treatment LDS folks have generally received at the hands of other Christians, I think you may have a correct conclusion, but that doesn't mean it is impossible to create quality articles.

No, it doesn't. What it says is that bias will always be called into question. Statements can be true, but slanted in such a way to alter perception.

At best, comments will be brought into line with the LDS position. No statements will actually originate from the LDS position.

I ask again, would Catholics be happy with non-Catholics writing a statement of Catholic beliefs?

Given the state of affairs at UT, I can only expect polemics to be the order of the day.

I didn't say that. I said call it what you like, but by definition it isn't a wiki.

I have a suggestion... Why not try to open the Christian Wiki to ALL CF members, just to see what happens? Wikipedia is open to absolutely everyone, and it's one of the most popular and reliable sources of information in the whole internet. And if the CF Wiki is open to everyone, then it will definitely grow much quicker... :)
