I don't want to read 30 pages of posts... but has it been mentioned here yet that 1) threads load realllllly slowly now because of the characters, and 2) "special" items are piling up on top of each other behind the character? (For example, I have two ribbons, but they are right on top of each other so only one is visible.)

I see both of these issues as a problem, but because of the slowness of page loads, I'm probably going to end up turning off armor altogether - which I think is a real shame, because I like to see how people dressed themselves up.

I can't help you on the page loads, but if you unequip and re-equip the special items (ribbons) they will display in the new place on the character's shirt or dress. They may still overlap...there's only so much space around the character for special items and all the possible combinations of special items mean that some will inevitably overlap.

I have noticed this too and can think of a possible way to solve it.

Erwin: have you considered using GD to generate the characters instead of using divs to pile the gifs on top of each other? Using GD would just require one image to load per character -plus- when you add new character items you could make them transparent PNG files to make smoother transparencies and also have the ability to have partial transparencies which would be really cool.

Being a professional web developer and having used GD before I can tell you how great it is and how much flexibility it has. Since your server has PHP abilities it should also have the ability to use the GD image library.

Just an idea... ;)

Thanks, I think that fixed it. At least I can see my yellow ribbon, and the alzheimer's one is probably stuck in my hair somewhere.

Another question: how are some people getting backgrounds for their characters?

Is your alzheimer's ribbon equipped as your THIRD special item? The third item displays behind the character, which is how we have background.

There are a few backgrounds scattered around in the special items categories. Check Nature, Transport and Electronics. :)

When you equip a background, be sure it's your THIRD equipped special item.

GD would kill the server. :) Imagine the GD trying to create images on the fly with people changing their armor all the time.

They are pointy cat ears, not horns, and that is sign language for "I love you", not a goat's head.

If you see this post tonight, I am wearing my wonderful pointy ears...thanks guys.
