New Devotion to Missions

I'm 16 and I've just returned from a youth conference, in which God had been impressing a large decision on me, and at which I made the decision. I've now promised to God, and revealed this promise before my youth group, that I'm going to devote my life to being a missionary for Christ. What I need now is prayers and advice; this post is asking for the advice. Does anyone here have experience in career missions? I know some do it as a hobby - going on a mission offered by a company or church, for perhaps a week or two. However, any advice from career missionaries - what to do in High School, what to study in college (and any west-of-the-Mississippi colleges, preferably closer to the west coast, that have good Missions study programs,) and what to do from there.

I haven't personally had experience with life long mission work, but my boyfriend does webdev for a guy who does. Let me just say that being a missionary is tough and rough and that I respect you in your choice in this...it is quite hard to do this and if (IF, not when) you happen to realize that this is not the choice for you and that God wants you somewhere else, take heart, you were doing the work of Christ either way. I really do respect you...there was a time in my life when all I wanted to do was be a missionary...but God led me to another place and that's what I think he wants me to do right now...so being a missionary will have to be a "hobby" as you call it.
