  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok so I just got stationed here in Hawaii and there is a church I discovered which seems to have an awesome young adult ministries. I'm totally looking for that, you don't even know how bad I need to be around other Christians my own age.

I'm so excited for this, to get back with God and drink in the Word again. Though, I'm not only going to be brand new to the church, but new to the state as well. To add to that I'm going by myself because I don't have any Christian friends here. Being new and by myself to the church does make me a little nervous... :sorry:

I've visited quite a few churches by myself over the years and it gets easier each time you do it. Some were great and others were a complete waste of time but I learned something from every experience. If the church looks like a place that you want to be then have faith and go for it.

im currently in the process of finding a new church and always go alone, and it is a little daunting, but people are usually very welcoming and are willing to help if you say its your first time there.

like the last church i went to i wasnt sure what to do or where to go, and i went to sit down and then suddenly i heard over the microphone for ''everyone to leave the room'' and i didnt know what was going on at all!! but all i had to do was ask, and i was told lol. simple as.

so dont worry :)
it may be a new building, and new people, but its still the same God

enjoy it :) and i hope you like the new church and feel at home

Do you understand and accept the doctrines of this church?

It amazes me how people talk about going to a new church and how little they talk about doctrine.

Doctrine for me is the #1 consideration.

I must preface my post by stating that I'm using this particular thread as a diving board for a more general discussion. Most of what I have to ***** about relates in no way to the OP's post.

Really Luther, after all this time, I had expected more from you. What is doctrine in comparison with a rockin' youth ministry?

Seriously, if I make my worship service so tame that I'm comfortable in the presence of an omnipotent god, something has gone wrong. The service should be for God, not for me, meant for his likes and not my own...and you can extrapolate this to the Christian lifestyle in general. I have come to despise "youth ministries" while here at the college. There's SO much emphasis on them. Being a follower of Christ is not something for children! So stop catering to them! What I usually see is not evangelism, it's brain-washing. Becoming a Christian is a life-shattering decision. It's not a way of life; it's a way of death that leads to life. No child has the presence of mind to "deny yourself and follow me." How can a man deny himself when he doesn't even know himself? Christianity is deeper than we give it credit for. What we end up with is adults who have no idea of the depth required by the teachings of Christ, because all they can comprehend is whatever they could comprehend as children.

I'm sure the OP is only looking for a chance to be around other christians his age, which is great. But I have a serious problem with services designed to cater to "youth" by blasting drums and hi-hats and callling it a worship service for God.
