I apologize for posting this in the wrong forum, but I really need some advice. I am a newbie Christian and I have DID (dissociative identity disorder). What that means is that I have more than one personality and I can hear them speak. I lose time and memory. It's like being in a car and you're not driving but you can see the driver and what he does. My therapist, Bette, says that I couldn't run away from bad things happening, so I escaped mentally.

I want to know how would deal with my alters and littles biblically. My faith helps me and I want to be a good Christian, but I can't let the alters, especially the mean teen take completely over. I know some people might think DID is demonic possession. Actually, it's a defense mechanism.

If you have any advice at all, please post it here or send me a private message. Thank you in advance :prayer:

I suggest going to a preacher and talking about it instead of a therapist cuz therapists dont know squat I'm sorry to say. They don't get their advice from God, they make it up. I know that you said that split personality is not demonic, but in my opinion it is. How long have you been a christian? Are you sincere about your faith? Im sorry if these are personal questions. I just want to help. I suggest reading the Bible more, and praying more, and going to church more. And drop the therapist. They're filling you head with lies. Jesus is the only true therapist that you need.

Some healings/solutions are instantaneous and others are a process. Your situation sounds like it most likely has a solution which is a process.

First of all, I would like to encourage you that often times a process can involve "three steps forward and two backward" as the saying goes meaning that somes setbacks do not mean a person is not making progress. The Lord can very much be involved in such a process and not getting an instantaneous answer or even a fairly quick answer does not mean you are stuck forever with the current problem.

Secondly, there is a huge amount of hope even for difficult problems biblically speaking. The Lord loves us and does indeed answer prayer. I suggest that you pray very specifically for the answers which you desire from the Lord concerning this.

Thirdly, the Lord can and often does use counselors to help us. There is such a thing as a bad counselor but some can be very helpful. Pray about that as well.

I am pulling for you and praying for you. Whatever you do, do not give up on your desire to see this situation improve. All things are possible to those who believe on Jesus.

I will definitely pray for you *hugs* DEFINITELY! You continue to pray in the faith yourself, all day and all night.. even if it's a small prayer such as 'Help me JESUS!'.. it counts to the Lord! We love you and we're all pulling for you!

Thank you all for your posts. I am beginning to realise that this condition is a blessing in a way. There are worse things (death/psychosis) than DID. I've been this way for a very long time and only recently (last month) have a ever told anyone about it. I have decided not to integrate (become united), but to learn how to live with DID more effectively and not be afraid. Thank you for your prayers.

yes if your not seeking christian council, thats all you should seek, if you are a christian you should go to other christians for help, IMO.
I will definitely be praying for you, please let us know, if you get to feel better!

There are Christian counselors/psychologists in this area, but they don't work for free. Many will not accept my insurance. I go to a mental health clinic that serves mostly the poor and people with limited insurance. I see a psychiatrist for 20-30 mins every 2 months. I see Bette, my therapist once a week for about 45 minutes. I have to be careful which Christians I speak with because many do not understand what DID is. Some think it is demonic possession, not a defense mechanism from abuse, trauma and/or isolation.

Thank you for prayers and I will keep in touch with CF.

The Dutch quote is the 6th stanza of the National Anthem of the Netherlands called Het Wilhelmus. The 1st and 6th stanzas are usually sung. (There are 15 stanzas in all) The English for the words are:

You, my God and Lord, are my shield, on You I rely.

On You I will build; never leave me,

So that I may remain pious, your servant at all moments,

Dispelling the tyranny that wounds my heart.

I find these words inspirational.

normally pastors would have taken a counselling course but i don't know whether they've had psychology lessons. I'm not sure whether the condition is demonic or what, but i know that it can be healed by God that is. So my best bet is to see a mature Christian psychologist. Perhaps he knows something that you don't.
