I've only been a Christian for a week or 2 now, and I have decided after much research to join the Baptist church. I hope I've made the right desicion! Oh, BTW, if I am Christained Church of England, can I still be christened Baptist... please tell me I can! :(
I was never christend as a Baptist, so I think the answer is yes/no. LOL To be honest with you most Baptist churches do not christen, so the answer is no. But will you be accepted? yes.

Your decision should be first and foremost to follow Christ. If in fact you feel that you can do this best in a Baptist church then by all means find one in your area, and serve God with all your heart, soul and mind.

Now the aptist church you may go to will probably ask you if you have been baptized. If you can't remember, or you didn't then they may ask if you want to.

Anyway the most important thing is you are on the right road by becoming a Christian!!! Welcome to the family!

Thanks y'all! I feel it's time to join a church becasue being a fledgling Christian, and having been an atheist all my life, I feel that without a church's guidance, I might slip back into my old ways. I want to be a Christian. I belive (almost) completely, but not completely yet. hopefully with guidance, I will. Time is all it takes! :) Time and Faith.

Oh, BTW, whats the differnece between a baptist and and an anabaptist?
It's the same thing just a different name.

Anabaptist is the name that we were given by the Catholics and Protestants way back when. The word anabaptist means (roughly) re-baptisers, because we believed in immersion baptism and not "sprinkling". The early followers of the Baptist system were "re-baptised" having come out of the RC church or the reformed churches. It was supposed to be an insult or term of derision but instead it was embraced.

BTW - The anabaptists sufferred more persecution than any other Christian group, being killed not only by the Catholic Church but by the "protestants" as well. Protestants referring to those who sought to reform the Catholic church (Lutherites, or Lutherans). An interesting fact.

Congratulations and WELCOME to the Body of Christ! We're all believers and we welcome you with open arms, as Christ does!

The amazing thing about God is that thanks to the gift of Christ's sacrifice, all we have to do is go straight to God and ask forgiveness for our past and future sins. We're of a sinful nature, and we must always struggle against sin, but he forgives us when we confess to him in prayer and we need only to ask forgiveness with an honest heart.

As far as baptism, many churches here do prefer if you become baptised by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. If you were sprinkled (christened?) as an infant, did you make the commitment to Christ? I don't think you could do that as a baby. It would be a great symbolic gesture for your own life to take the step and be baptised. It is an outward sign of an inner change that you have decided to make. None of us are perfect, and nobody will ever be pure. If you've decided to make the change in your life, then you ARE ready. Christ is ready for you. Take that step to show outwardly what you've commited yourself to. It will help you tremendously, and will be completely worth it.

John baptism will be recommended by your church. There are seven things (distinctives) that make us Baptists..

B - Bible is the sole authority for the church
A- Autonomy of the local church - no hierarchy from outside to tell churches what to do and how to conduct services etc.
P- Priesthood of the believer - any believer can approach God without a priest
T- Two church ordinances - believers baptism and the Lord's Supper
I- Immersion baptisim for believers only
S- Saved church membership - you can't be a member of the church unless you have been saved - unlike Protestant churches
T- Total separation of church and state - no government money accepted, no control

These are the things that we believe, which make us distinctly Baptist. Immersion baptism is practiced as requested by new believers. It has no supernatural power it is only a public act of obedience to Christ. The point being... anyone can be baptized who confesses belief in Christ, and it doesn't matter what you've done before. Heh, I was baptized 4 times in the Catholic church and I was still baptized by immersion after I was saved.
