Hi all,

I have recently started going to my local Salvation Army Corp in the UK and I love it. I love the community feel of it and how welcome I was made to feel. I would say at the minute that I am more of a salvationist than a Christian but with the guidance for my Officer that is changing.

What I have come to ask for is some tips on things you are doing to improve attendance at your corps.

I get so much from the services but we are only a group and there is no one my age (25) other than my partner and children. What can I do to get more people to recognise that we are here?

We do community things like fun days and stalls but I feel we need something more but I don't know how to go about doing it. Any tips are much appreciated.

It appears to me that: The leadership of any church group that wants to make an impression on the community in which they are working needs to do a couple of things.

The church needs to have a heavily motivation emphasis on the gospel. Great emphasis needs to be on salvation, the mourner's bench needs to open after every service, with more than just "if you have a need you are welcome to come and pray".

Often there needs to be pleading for the unsaved to step out and come for prayer, were he or she is met by church staff or members who have been trained on how to deal with troubled or unsaved folks. These folks need not be paid staff but folks who have taken the time to sit down with the pastor and be versed on counseling.

Our former Major saw to it that the citadel and the staff were available when there was any major problem in the community or among non church families who needed help. In fact we had a major crisis in our community some years back and that morning he and his wife were to leave on holidays. I was pleasantly surprised when he canceled the holiday. His example inspired many in the congregation to get involved. It gave the core front page space with the local News Media, which didn't do the church any harm either.

For the Christian individual there are always opportunities for work with the church. Just let the minister know that you are interested and he or she will find a position in which you can serve. If your health doesn't allow to get out and about, a prayer warrior is just as important as being the Major in any core.

If your church doesn’t need your help contact your local Gideons. They are always short handed.

I don't know if I have given a few thoughts to think about or not, but I trust I may have been of some help.

Hello fellow believer, as you continue to grow in the faith I believe the Holy Spirit will lead you into a ministry that is worth doing.
Sadly though your age group has fallen away from all church groups in general. Many things can be done, our corps has started a group for young mothers and babies called "Baby Song" and being a typical guy I did not think much about it...it has attracted up to 30 mothers and kids that do not attend our Corps. Attending church on Sunday is fine but not necessary as far as I see it. We are called to walk in the Spirit every day 365 days a year, for me everyday is Sunday. The new church did not add numbers to their groups they added souls.
So go out there and listen to the Spirit and add souls to your Corps.
