I agree with you on some points here. Companies have taken the spiritual and have capitalized on it to the point that it cheapens everything. Look at how yoga, for example, has become so mainstream--virtually every bookstore these days carries yoga DVDs, yoga music, yoga mats, etc etc.... Bear in mind, however, that this doesn't happen only in New Age circles; I went to visit a large basilica in Montreal last week and we visited the "gift shop". I left after a few minutes simply feeling disgusted--everything from hot pink and baby blue Catholic figurines to Inuit nativity sets. That's what I call $pirituality. These things, however, are there for a purpose, just like some people try to sell $30 crystals. You may find it ridiculous to buy expensive crystals, but you won't think twice when buying Tommy Hilfiger jeans when the crystal buyers will be just as happy with regular jeans.psychedelicist said:I'm getting so tired of this new age bull. "New Age" has become a catch-all phrase, hence meaning very little these days. To the extent it maintains any real cohesion as a label for a movement, it refers to aspects of Eastern religions that were adopted and westernized starting in the 60s.
