  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know if this is the right category for this or not but I'll shoot.....

I'm looking at doing a "fun/activity" day at our church for deeper fellowship between members.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We are not a large church but we do have pretty much an equal ratio of youth to adults. I would like suggestions of activities/games that would apply to all ages or separate if necessary. I would especially like it if we could incorporate some Biblical theme into the activity.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are looking at doing this in 3 weeks. Afterwords we would have an ice cream social where you would make your own sundae.

THANKS!

The best times I've had at church socials have been with skits and bands, but that takes some talented peeps with a humous imagination to come up with some funny "just been saved" type themes and some good band members, popcorn and pop usually go good with the corny entertainment. Hths

How about a scavenger hunt? You know, everyone has to go out in teams and find a set of pre-selected common household objects. You could come up with things that have some spiritual significance, like building the armor of God -- you know:

Some sort of helmet
A "sword" (can be a plastic cocktail sword or a butter knife)
A pair of shoes
A "breastplate" (they could be required to make this themselves out of things they find around the house-- pan lids, garbage can lids, etc.)
The word (a Bible)

See what I mean? :D

I guess this would be geared toward the youth more so than older people. Our church did a "Fear Factor" thing where the kids had to complete each challenge before moving on to the next. For instance, there was a childs plastic swimming pool with mud that they had to dig out objects then on to the slip n slide...etc. It was fun

Church is not for social enterprises , only spiritual enterprises!
Is it not spiritual if it draws people closer together and opens up opportunities for friendships to form?

I don't think the pastor said these activities were going to replace the worship service-- I assumed they'd be in addition to that.

We used to play "Wheel of Fortune", "Jeapordy", and "Bible Trivia" games.
Also (for the youngers), Bible tag (like tv tag), charades, and masqurade (come dressed as your favorite Bible character, martyr or historical Christian leader).
