I have prayed about this but I'm not sure what to do.

My current job position, my company will be eliminating. I'm unsure when my last day is. 3 weeks ago when I found this out, I started looking for jobs and I jumped at this one job opening without thinking it through. Its for a mail carrier in the next town over. I was offered the job and I need to give them an answer today. It is being done all thru email. I haven't spoken to anyone yet.

Now... Little background on me. I have a medical condition mainly affecting my legs. I'm not too concerned about my leg condition with the new position as my current job is kinda physical too. But.. This is what I'm concerned about. I have a problem with low blood pressure and this can happen inside or outside. But when its very hot and especially humid out, I can get very lightheaded which leads to dizziness. At my previous job, the problem got so bad and learned that I was getting lightheaded because of the warmness of the building plus the fluorescent lights. The mail trucks don't have ac. They just have fans. But, I don't want to miss out on a great job because of this problem. I used to carry crackers and electrolyte chews to help raise blood pressure, but it didn't always help. What helped was a blast of icy cold ac. Only that took All those terrible symptoms away.

I've prayed about this the last several days but feel absolutely no direction as to what to do. I always hear people say that the holy spirit will lead me into what to do to make the right decision. I don't fully understand that. I'm wondering if I request to speak to someone before making a decision about the job, being that this problem is out of my control, I'm wondering if they'd somehow be able to come up with some type of accomodation that could help me. Because the town I'll be in, most houses have their mailboxes on the street, so I'll be in the mail truck. I'd just need ac unless any of u have any ideas? What should I do?

Unfortunately, it sounds like a position that will put strain on existing health conditions. Blessings

Are there any accommodations you can ask about? Give them a call and ask about them.

It can be a very physical job. Hot weather. Cold weather. Crazy hot weather and crazy cold weather. Some of the driving routes are no so physical, but the weather is still huge. As to air conditioning when in a vehicle, I think it's impractical as you always have the window open. Kind of have to have the window open to get the mail into the boxes. You might want to check with your doctor about what you need. One thing for me was back then I had legs of steel, being mostly a walker.

What helped me out of the USPS was their forced overtime. They have some pretty chronic labor shortages, and that could mean lots of extra hours for you whether you want them OR NOT. Some of those days will be crazy hot or crazy cold.

Yes, you need to make sure about your medical condition being all right. And we are not to give what is medical advice, here.

Inside a building, my experience is I could feel heat inside because the air can be not moving around me and the temperature can build up around me. But in a vehicle you can have shade, maybe, plus some blowing air through the windows. So, may be the truck could be more comfortable and safe. But you need to make sure.

Maybe you could develop some sort of vest which can hold ice or hold frozen packs which can be inserted into pockets on the vest. And you can add and remove packs, as you need. But if you do make something like this, make sure the frozen packs are secure in each pocket . . . so one does not fall out and injure a foot!

You could make a vest, making sure there is insulation between the inserted frozen packets and your skin; but check how it goes for you, medically.

While I was walking interstate during very hot days, I had a little trick. I would go into a bathroom and wet my jersey and put it back on, and I could feel like I was walking on a cool breezy spring day. But, I am not saying to work in a wet shirt!! My point is > on very hot days, I might wet the jersey, and it would dry out, and then I would wet it again, and it turned out that after a few wettings and dryings my body adapted to the heat . . . maybe because the gradual drying of the jersey broke me in to the hot air.

And make sure you are drinking fluids, along with electrolytes, like I think you already know to do; but make sure; you never know how we could need to correct and adapt what we are doing.

Sadly, this doesn't sound like a suitable job for you. Most mail vehicles I've seen don't have any doors for ease of delivery. So even if there was an air conditioner, it wouldn't do any good. I can't imagine the postal service would install one.

I'm also surprised that they offered you the position without meeting you. I seem to remember that there were exams to take before being hired. Maybe that's changed. But most employment applications ask if the applicant has any physical limitations to doing the job. Did you answer that question?

I used to run marathons, and one thing that saved me in the heat was a cold pack that hangs around the back of the neck. When kept damp it does a great job of cooling the whole body.

I wish you well in this job hunt.
