  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need some support. . .

I had a falling out with my best friend. I said some things I regret. I didn't say anything vindictive or purposely insulting, but I told him things about himself that were true, yet very cold and un-loving. He responded defensively and with insults of his own. I refused to speak to him, I just wanted to bury my head in the sand and make him disappear. He left several text and voicemail messages, some bitter, some hurt, some insulting, all of which went unanswered. In his last message he told me that he was letting this situation (my not talking to him) tear him apart, he didn't know what was wrong with me, or what he had done but he was never going to contact me again, since that is clearly what I wanted. I felt terrible at that moment. It's not really that I want to have contact with him; the friendship had just ceased to be a positive thing and was running me into the ground emotionally and physically. But I realize that I should have been walking in love and trying to make amends. Even though sincerely saying sorry and asking for foregiveness doesn't mean we could restore the friendship, at least, for my part, I wouldn't be parting in anger or bitterness. Instead I was stubborn, and now I have what I want (which is not to have contact with him) but I'm miserable. I hurt someone with my cold silence and stubborness, I should have seen through his anger and defensiveness and saw the hurt that my words had caused. Now it seems too late, or lame, or whatever. Maybe I still have too much pride. Please pray for me to know what to do.

It is very hard to always do the right thing. Sometimes to get what we want the most efficiant way it seems that the wrong thing is better suited.

Sounds like your friend must have had some kind of crush on you or something like that for things to get so dramatic like this. In that case he just needs to go find someone else to dote over. But I probably am just makeing a bad guess, so don't mind me.

I don't know what exactly the problems are between you and your friend but there are very few good reasons to shut people out. Yes it is important to think about how to act as Jesus would and how to be loving, even when you are not feeling too terribly full of love. But remember love is selfless and does what's best for the person that is the object of love. Love is also honest, though probably more tactful than you were, we all make mistakes so don't get too upset. A good start would be to appologize for being mean, but explain what you want and leave no room for argument.

Its not good to let anger sit and fester. Anyhow I'll be praying for you guys and I hope you can quit worrying about all this soon.
