Silly Frog. We only let men 'think' that we don't know how to fix cars. That's one of the things we 'let' men believe so they have something to do :holy:
no, we just let you think you are letting us do that.;):p

I find it helps to compare as many variants as possible, to determine what the meaning might be. From these it would seem to relate to the dangers of chidbirth, ie; 'bearing children is full of danger, but a woman who has faith, love, holiness and self control will be delivered safely of her child'. In other words, it is not about eternal salvation through childbirth, but safe childbirth through faith in God.

well..I think Paul had more of this kind of thing in mind to avoid. It is as if he is saying, just be at home, be productive, don't do what the negative in the verses below, but do the positive as in Titus 2:4.

Titus 2:4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

1 Tim 5:13 Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not. 14 So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.

2 Tim 3:They are the kind who work their way into people's homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires.

All in all, I think that it is about doing all that we do to the best of our ability and unto the Lord. Jesus said that the first will be the last and demonstrated this by His coming to earth not as God (to be worshipped), but God as a servant. Dying for our sins. Paying the penalty that we could never pay. He also demonstrated this concept by washing His disciples feet.

Just because we do not have the grandest job in the world, does not matter when we are doing it for the glory of God. If we can find the value, love and importance in all of the smaller (by our own account) moments in our lives, than how much grander will be the glory that we give God during the grander, more public moments of our lives.

A woman gives birth to a child, but it still takes a man and a woman to create a child. It should all be to God's glory anyway.

Yes, all of that, however over optimistic it might be. I just looked at the verse which was asked about.

One of the things that fascinates me about this verse, which I'm sure the scholars will berate me for, is following out the typology of the husband/wife relationship as Christ and the Church.
The woman (church) will be saved in childbearing (bearing fruit) if they (the fruit) continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. This lines up pretty well with John's revelation to the churches.

Actually, in the original Greek we read that wives are to "rule" the household (RSV) "...in domestic matters" (Weymouth's version).

This is because "the woman ought to have authority OVER her head" (I Corinthians 11:10; CLNT), "her head" being her husband (verse 3).

Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. (1 Timothy 2:15)

Here it's translated as: she will be saved, bearing children. Never understood that text until when I had my second kid and they refused to give me anything for the pain, stupid farmers, I only wanted a third kid if I would get the assurance it would be without pain. Saw a book in Toronto about Supernatural deliverances based on that text also and testimonies of women who just believed and got them painless. I doubted and the writer said if you doubt a bit take meds.
I got an epidural and they had to wake me up lol, only had to push a bit, it was painless, not Supernatural but still a bit and I was saved in childbearing.

This would fall in line with Proverbs 31 :)

You're joking, right? :)

Ummm...are you suggesting that it can take a woman almost a lifetime to understand how to change a tyre or the oil! Mind you, when it comes to my darling wife there could be some truth to it.

Seems there is much to be said here both about tires and attire. lol

My girlfriend had a dream she had a flat tire and was looking for me. She came over, had a flat, I changed it with her temporary spare tire. Found a nail, she went in and had it fixed for free. I love to help the love of my life.

(Joh 16:20) Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

(Joh 16:21) A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

(Joh 16:22) And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

(Rev 12:1) And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

(Rev 12:2) And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

(Gal 4:26) But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

(Joh 3:3) Jesus answered and said to him, `Verily, verily, I say to thee, If any one may not be born from above, he is not able to see the reign of God;'

(Rom 8:21) that also the creation itself shall be set free from the servitude of the corruption to the liberty of the glory of the children of God;

(Rom 8:22) for we have known that all the creation doth groan together, and doth travail in pain together till now.

(Heb 12:22) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

(Rev 22:17) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

opinions?

Adam and Eve sinned against God and so all their descendants inherited the consequences of Adam's sin; the worst being our estrangement from God's friendship, and thereby no possibility of ever entering into eternal life with God in heaven. Eve was tricked into sinning by the serpent, but Adam was not tricked and he deliberately chose to please Eve rather than to obey God.

Jesus first saves us by His gift of grace and this grace reconciles us to God, but we must then remain faithful (continue in this grace through our obedience to God's commandments until death) if we want to be approved to enter into eternal life. Continuing in the grace of God until death requires faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

Childbearing causes suffering and suffering in imitation of Jesus is pleasing to God because it helps us to become more like Jesus who suffered greatly in order to forgive our sins.

1 Peter 5:10
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

I've given it thought, but I honestly can't reconcile it to my "western" thinking. I would think that a Charismatic Messianic would have way more insight to the cultural context.

Paul suggested that what he says should be testable against the OT. I don’t think that verse is testable against the OT or the Talmud that Paul also used; but this may come from the Babylonian Talmud also called doctrine of men.
