• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,

My name is Jeff. I have been dating a lady for over 4 months now. She has so much to cope with, health problems, money problems. lost her house. Her name is Sandy. She is very depressed right now and I know for the second time since I have know her she has contemplated suicide. She has told me she is dead inside right now. I have treated her very, very good since I have been with her. I will continue to do that. I do love her and feel very helpless right now. I need some helpful advice to know if there is anything else I can do for her that I am not doing already. I will and have done anything for her. But with this I am at a loss. I of course pray for her. Any advice you can be given will be greatly helpful.

God bless you,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I'm sorry you and your girlfriend are going through this. It sounds like you are very kind to her.

I struggle with depression at times, and when I'm having a tough time it's hard for me to do anything. Some things that have been helpful for me at those difficult times are when my friends encourage me to get out of my house and to do something. They will usually invite me to dinner or to a movie or something that makes me get up and get going. They also have pushed me to get counseling. One time I was really in bad shape and they called my pastor and my friend, her husband, my pastor and his wife all confronted me with their concern and that I needed to get some help.

My responses varied - sometimes I was angry and avoided them - sometimes I knew they were right and I would push myself to get up, get out and get help.

If she's not in counseling and she's having suicidal thoughts, maybe you could encourage her to seek counseling and even go with her if necessary. If you think she's going to attempt suicide and she wont' talk with her physician or a therapist, then you could contact your local mental health agency about forcing her to get help. There are very strict limitations on that in my state, but if danger is imminent, it is a life saving option.

Listening is a big help many times and just loving her through this time will probably mean a lot to her.

I'll pray for the both of you.

In Him,
Kristen

If I where to guess, experienced so much failure that she forgotten how to pick herself back up. Now her sinful nature is getting the best of her.

She needs to learn how to pick herself back up. Tools like forgiveness and self affirmation will help her.

Also arm her with understanding of battle within. I will link you to prior comments.

http://www.christianforums.com/t5720277-had-a-breakthrough.html

She will need to pray and place her hope in our Lord. She has to realize that her life is far from over. She needs to grow strong in wisdom and in faith.

Depression is a dsyfunction, but only she can save herself. Be patient with her and nurture her with wisdom of God. You can not enable her, battle within she must learn how to fight.

I will pray for you both. =)
