  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi. I'm trying to build a series of novels that take place in first century Judea.

I have some reading material to give me a jump point, but I was wondering if anyone else could suggest any good, literary quality novels or short story collections that center on biblical (especially New Testament) events.

The ones I have so far are:

Joseph and His Brothers (Mann)
Ben Hur (Wallace)
King Jesus (Graves)
The Gospel According to the Son (Mailer)
Quo Vadis (Sienkiewicz)
The Robe (Douglas)
The Silver Chalice (Costain)

Thanks for any suggestions anyone could bring!

have you ever read anything by Francine Rivers? i guess her books probably appeal more to women, but she has an excellent series about the women in Jesus's heritage; Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Mary. i would definitely recommend those books if you want well written, interesting Biblical fiction.

Only bits and pieces but my mom loved the one triology that took place after the destruction of the Jerusalem temple in AD 70.

Thanks!

that's the heart of the lion series. voice in the wilderness, echoes of destiny... and i can't remember the 3rd book. they're kind of predictable. at least in my opinion. i didn't think you'd be interested in that though since they're kind of girly.

i've only read a few of her women of the bible series.
