Need Ideas

I have a big blank, square wall space. I want to make something to hang on the wall (my artistic talents are pretty limited) and need some cheap ideas. I don't have any floor space to put anything because the wall is located above some built in shelves.

Depends on how cheap we're talking.

But my suggestion is - buy a suitably sized canvas frame and pain it. Whatever colour you want. For instance - have a black background and then paint patchy red over the top. It looks GREAT and really arty.

And it's so cheap! (depending on where and how big you buy the canvas and what brand of acrylics you use)

If I use canvas will I have to stretch it? Maybe it would be better to use masonite or thin plywood or something? I want the picture to be at least 4X4 feet.

Go to an art or craft store, like Michaels or something, and you will probably be able to find some pieces of white hard canvas, no stretching needed. I can't remember what the stuff is called. It's thin but sturdy enough that it won't bend. You can put an inexpensive frame on that too.

I've seen those, they are already coated with a layer of gesso. I didn't realize they came that big, I've only seen small ones.

yeah i have some of that canvas too. you could take a cool peice of fabric the size you want and nail to wall, or make a quilt and do that.

Better yet, you could put your favourite bible verses on the fabric or canvas in some creative way. Or just print them off the computer in large print.
