• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ive been smoking for about 7yrs now. Not only is it taking a toll on my health, but my pocket book is shrinking as well. I am having problems trying to quit. Ivetried 3 or 4 times. A few times, Ive made it up to about 5 months. But I just cant reach that one year mark. I just need some help. I could really use some prayer and guidance.

Hey there!

Great work on all the quits. Don't be so hard on yourself. If you can quit for 5 months then you can quit for good. I had smoked on and off for 10 years and my longest quit was 6 months. I never thought I would make it but my last one was over 2 years ag0 (over 2 years and 2 months). You can do it! Just set a new quit date and work towards. Think about how you got back into it last time and be prepared for the temptation this time around. I decided that I was going to use every time I quit and started again to learn something new about my addiction so that the next time I quit I could do better. And thus I am now smoke free!

Some good advice - set a quit date, Keep a log of all the good things that happen in the first year of smoking and remind yourself of these, most important when you crave ask yourself why (boredom, tired, cranky, frustrated) and try to overcome those feelings in another way, find things you can do to stop yourself thinking about it and let quitting be your ultimate goal. If you put on weight so what - you can work on that later but for now this is the most important thing.

God bless and if you need help PM. I am always willing to help another quitter!
