Are there any tips out there from any body on how to focus, when you are having your quiet time?

I have a tough time concentrating and staying in tune with god when I pray. And the prayer itself almost never seens 100% sincere or even 80%.

Are there any tips on how to stay focus, when you pray?

Thank you in advance,

Jason

Do you have trouble focussing on other things? Prayer is just talking to God. Use the Lord's prayer as a pattern - praising Him, and telling Him how much He means to you and thanking Him for the good things you have in life. Start counting off your blessings and then saying thanks alot. Then pray for whatever it is you think might be His will for your life and ask Him what gift you have to use in the Church. If you don't know what the gifts are, there is a list in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12. Pray for your parents, family, and friends - government, freedom, Israel, the world, against war, for the poor and needy....??...then swing it back around again and just lift your hands up to God and adore and praise Him with your love again.....
This may not be your way, and there a many ways to pray as there are people, but you will develop a way as you pray more. We can carry on a silent prayer with God throughout the day, practising His presence because He never leaves us, and I think this is what the Bible means with "pray without ceasing".
You can also recite His promises back to Him and claim them for your life, saying that you want them. Get your Bible out and talk to Him about it as you read. There are lots of ways.......I hope this helps you out some.
God bless

Yes this does help, and yes I do have trouble focusing on other things, so a prayer for me will help also.

Thanks again, God bless

you need the holyspirits help to pray effectively and focused. you cant doit yourself.

this is the reason you never begin to petition or ask of God for things, before you have taken time to simply worship him, welcome him into the room and praise him with thanksgiving.
that is an effort and action that puts God first in your thoughts and spirit, and helps to keep your mind on Christ. only after you have worshiped, praised and thanked him and welcomed his presence, should begin to seek your own things.

you cant enter into the presence of God except through worship anyway, and prayer is pointless without his presence.

i like to turn out the lights too, less distractions.

reading your scriptures and worshipping are two huge doorways to first embark upon entering into His Holy prescence.

I agree with the former post, start with worship to get yourself into the right mindset and put you in your place and God in his rightful place. Such is why the prayer model ACTS starts with Adoration, then confession, then thanksiving then supplication. Though the important thing is to not neglect the Holy Spirit. Welcome the Holy Spirit's prescence and romance it rather than just rushing through your prayers. Just like any relationship, yours with God should take time and sensitivity and genuine devotion. :)

I agree that worship is a great way to begin prayer. First of all, worship takes our focus off ourselves (which is where the distractions come from anyway) and onto God. Another reason that's important is worship will bring us closer to the true character of the God to whom we're talking to, and so our prayers are less likely to be us-centered. For me, music is how i best enter into worship (especially if i'm having trouble focusing).

Having said that, another way I found to shut out distractions was to find a secluded place to walk and pray. The act of walking helped to quiet many distractions and pray.

Hope some of this helps.

Peace,
