Hi everyone, I would greatly appreciate your prayers- I have a very severe spiritual problem, I do not understand the bible and I do not understand God very well either. I think it would take a sovereign act of God for me to understand the scripture, you need to understand the scripture or you are going to get fooled and you won't understand God either, so I am in a serious predicament. I have been through reading the bible at least 8 times cover-to-cover over the years and I still do not understand it. Please pray for God to help me to understand the scripture and also to understand Him!

Praying The Lord will give you a greater understanding of His Word. Though don't be surprised when you don't understand every last thing-even those who spend their whole lives studying it can't do that.

Hi Dave.
When Jesus walked the earth, when he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36
He really wanted to have more disciples to go out there and help people who were spiritually starved.
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Matthew 9:37
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:38

This can be your sincere prayer, that the Lord of the harvest sends one of his workers to help you.
Cornelius prayed earnestly, and God responded.
Cornelius and all his household were devout and God-fearing. He gave generously to the people and prayed to God regularly. Acts 10:2
One day at about the ninth hour, he had a clear vision of an angel of God who came to him and said, “Cornelius!” Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a memorial offering before God. Now send men to Joppa to call for a man named Simon who is called Peter. Acts 10:3-5

God answered Cornelius' prayer, instructing him to call a worker in the harvest, to instruct him.
God will not refuse to hear your prayer.
He wants to grant you the desire of your heart.

If you so desire, and would welcome it, I give Bible lessons free of charge, and make myself available as a worker in the harvest.
I have helped persons to become workers in the harvest, and I am continually seeking to make more disciples of the Lord.

I can teach you the Bible, so that you know its message, from beginning to end.

If you are interested, please PM me, and you can invite as many persons as are interested.
I hope to hear from you.
Take care.

You are trusting God to show you what He desires you to know! Praise God! He will! He will do it!

Do you use a cell phone or computer to post?

One more question... of all Bible Stories, what is your favorite Bible story?

One last point, people love to teach you their personal doctrines and beliefs when you are vulnerable like this. You don't want this. Good on you! Learning how to study scripture is a matter between you and The Holy Spirit who dwells within You.

Easy Bible study thanks to the Internet. (Stay away from Bible Commentaries and I also recommend initially staying away from People that want to "teach you" How to understand the bible... from their perspective.)

I remember a story about David and Goliath, but where do I find it?

I type David and Goliath into the website search bar

This is a Bible Study Tool. The Holy Spirit inside of you will help you study! These study tools will make finding passages more rapid!

If you find this helpful, I can show you how to "Cross Reference" in the same similar rapid way. Scripture is Scriptures own Commentary. Being taught "HOW to study scripture" is far different than being taught "What Scripture Means". I encourage you to maintain your stance and seek out how to study scripture with STUDY TOOLS, Not commentary or through the eyes of someone else.

We are told in the Bible that we need no man to teach us, but that the Holy Spirit will teach us.

There is nothing in the Bible that there aren’t disagreements over with human beings. But human beings can be helpful if they themselves are guided by the Holy Spirit. So I pray you will pray, and I pray for you also, that you will be given discernment and guidance on who to listen to, and who to ignore.

I pray that each and every time you look for the Bible that you first pray to the Father for the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of your understanding.

@Dave Darling, I'm saying this, not for your benefit alone, but everyone else's.

Jesus said, Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world. Matthew 28:19, 20

Jesus sent out his disciples. He commanded them to Go, and preach, and teach.
Jesus has not told us, Don't go. Sit on the internet where you will find all kinds of different conflicting answers to one simple question.
So, if you really want to understand the truth of the Bible, Jesus disciples are available to help you.
They offer to help, and to teach.
The following is an example of God using one of his workers in the harvest. Notice that he uses a man - a harvester, to teach.

Acts 8:26-31
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. 27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

Such men are the workers Jesus said to pray to the master of the harvest for more of them.
People who sit and wait to be infused by holy spirit are already ignoring what the Bible says.
It's Jesus disciples that receive holy spirit - the ones who are actually already involved in the harvest.

So, when someone tells a thinking person who is asking a genuine question, to stay away "from people that want to "teach you"" the Bible... and then they add something on to it, like "from their perspective." is that person really interested in you, or themselves?

Satan wants people to remain in confusion, and the reason the churches are emptying, is because people are beginning to have their eyes opened, and realize they don't have to allow Satan's billions of ministers with their morass of conflicting teachings to continue to confuse them.

Let me assure you that you will simply be studying the Bible. Not church doctrine and traditions that invalidate God's word. Most people claim to be Christians, and they do not love the truth.
Moreover, you are not a 2 year old that someone has to tell you, "don't listen to him", "don't accept that"... You deserve better respect than that.
You are an adult with a brain to think for yourself, and know what to accept from what not to. You have common sense, and freedom to stop the study at any time.

Also, you are not forced to study. It is your choice, and you will be determining for yourself if you are seeing what the Bible teaches.
Some of the topics you can choose from, are::
  • Why is there suffering, and when will it end?
  • Are the dead suffering? Is there any hope I will see my dead loved ones again?
  • Can you really trust the Bible with 100% certainty?
  • Who are Jesus true disciples?
  • What is the kingdom of God's for which we pray? ...and many more.
There is a reason people come to religious internet forums, instead of just googling a question.
People are looking for someone, who will be able to use the Bible to teach, rather than just give an answer, which most often leaves ones with more question, and then one is wasting their time googling other question, which leaves one at the very beginning where they started, because, now their are so many confusing and conflicting answers.

It is my hope that you will study the Bible with someone who is actively involved in obeying Jesus command to go, make disciples, and teach them.

Continue praying about it though. Don't give up. It's always good too, when we are specific in our prayers about what we want. God will grant it to us, as long as we are sincere - honest, and humble.
Take good care Dave.

Great guidance, Grip. Bible Gateway is an awesome resource. Especially for me as I'm terrible at memorizing addresses! When I'm looking for a Scripture that the Holy Spirit brings to mind, I just speak a snippet into my phone, confirm, and plug it into Bible Gateway for the reasons you list. Sure beats the days of toting around an 8-pound Concordance, doesn't it?

I also always include a link to it on the bottom of my posts on other social media, like Facebook, so that the reader can do as the Bereans do and research for themselves if they don't have a Bible. Perhaps that exposure will give them a hunger to know more from Scripture, eh?

God bless, Dave!
